Splinter Group + Oh well?
I recently got some "new" Splinter Group live cds.
On one of them, the audience scream for "Oh Well" before the encores. Does anyone know if the band ever played this song live? It was mentioned in a concert review on Penguin, but one of these reviews also mentioned a 20-minute version of Rattlesnake Shake... No, they never played "Oh Well" and they never played a 24 minutes version of "Rattlesnake Shake", I'm pretty sure! Mario. Last edited by Mario; 02-20-2007 at 06:20 AM.. |

I doubt they ever played Oh Well. Perhaps they tried it once or twice at rehearsals...?
I have one bootleg where the audience want "Oh Well" and Nigel then plays about half a second of the opening riff ... just to tease.. Perhaps that's the same one that you're referring too? |

Of the four times I saw the Splinter Group, they never played "Oh Well". And, the times they played "Rattlesnake Shake", they barely reached the 5 minute mark, much less 20+. The longest song I ever heard them play was "Black Magic Woman"...the last time I saw them (at the House Of Blues in Downtown Disney in May 2002), it fell just short of being 15 minutes long.

Nah, there's not even a tease of "Oh Well "on this concert.
It's from Cambridge 05/99, with a guest guitarist on the encore which I can't make out. "Black magic woman" from King's Lynn 12/03 is very interesting, a bit like Grateful Dead, with a shuffle rhythm and Peter playing "jazz" licks towards the end! A bit strange that they didn't do "Oh Well" - all the other hits were played... Maybe Peter was especially tired of "Oh Well". |

I bet it would have been added to the SG setlist, if they hadn't broke up.
......................................sung and played by Mr. Watson, that is!!! |

I remember asking Nigel Watson at their show here in 2002 why they dont play Oh Well, and he said Peter was jut tired of it.

That's kind of interesting, since in 2002, the PGSG hadn't played the song since their inception in 1996...and who knows HOW long it had been since Peter had played it before that.

I was thinking about it and "Oh Well" wouldn't have fit in a PGSG set.
The song somehow still always fit a Fleetwood Mac set preceded & followed by whatever their then-current material was...whether it be Danny Kirwan, Bob Welch, Christine McVie, Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham, Billy Burnette or Dave Mason's material. (since a Rick Vito or Bekka Bramlett song never preceded or followed "Oh Well" in a set, they aren't listed)

That's true, he just doesn't like it. I bet he would have liked to skip the rest of the Mac songs as well (maybe not BMW), but that wouldn't have been good from a business perspective for the Splinter Group.
