I'm so pleased someone pointed this out.

That's great. I'm in my teacher training year at the moment. It's really really hard work - completely takes over everything....but so worth it when you teach a lesson that you worked hard to plan and the kids make progress (and enjoy it too!)

Are you applying for primary or secondary?

This is partially true - but you shouldn't believe that ticket price is all Madonna either. Do the math - for instance, the Pepsi Center in Denver where Madonna performed in 2009 has a concert capacity of 17,600 for concerts with an end-stage which is what Madonna uses. She's not playing there this tour, but whatever. If her fee were 3M, then the average ticket price should only be 170 dollars assuming a sellout show, which is pretty much a guarantee for her.

So who's getting other 205 dollars? The venue and the promoter with more than a 100% markup on the cost of the ticket.

But let's be real - the actual number of seats at Pepsi Center for the last tour were 11,750 - or $255 per ticket at a 3M fee. However, my seats last tour were $99. Premium seats were much higher and there's NO WAY the minimum seat price will be 375 for this tour.

People just like to complain, and she's an easy target.

By the way - the cheap seats at Yankee Stadium are only $95 - less than I paid for Fleetwood Mac in 2003. Source: http://gothamist.com/2012/02/07/mado...stadium_th.php

I saw that rear field seats were $375 at Yankee Stadium. That's pretty fracking far away from homeplate! And even still, $95 to sit up in the nosebleeds is pretty ridiculous... Fleetwood Mac was charging "only" $25 - $50 for those kinds of seats last time around. Plus there is the hassle of battling the crowds and battling for a space on packed subway cars and platforms. And heaven help you if you have to drive for some reason. As much as I would love to see this show, it pains me that I could buy a roundtrip airline ticket and go away to some place wonderful for the same amount of money.

Let's not forget that she doesn't set her prices - Live Nation does in conjuction with the venue. Her stage is very elaborate, with thousands of little LCD screens attached to a flexible netting type of device that can twist, turn and transform - from a video monitor to a cylinder of light surrounding her. The video monitors alone are 25-35 feet high (made up of those LCD screens) - and there are three of them usually. There is a stage cast (musicians & dancers) of aproximately 50 people. Transforming stages that move up and down - last tour a car was even driven onto the stage! It's expensive to transport, assemble, operate and disassemble all of this stuff for every show. It takes three or four days of work for each show - that ticket price covers all of that work, food for the workers, hotels for the entire stage crew.

There are very few artists I'd pay $375 to see - Fleetwood Mac is not one of them, no matter what. I know from prior experience that they could never provide an appropriate value for that kind of fee, neither could the Eagles. Maybe U2...maybe. Considering the high caliber of a Madonna show, I think the cost is appropriate. It's worth it, to me anyway.

I'm not saying everyone should pay that much to see her, and I'm sure there will be cheaper seats at every show. The thing with concerts is you're getting an experience for your money, nothing tangible - just a feeling, a memory that will last forever. Each of us has to put a value on that experience that we are wiling to pay. The last Madonna show I saw was $99 dollars - we were literally in the second-to-last row. Looking back, I'd easily have paid $299 for that experience. It was that good, but then I've loved her music most of my life and it was the first time I'd been able to see her live.

Edit: I guess what I'm trying to say is that when the Eagles are charging 375 for a show, you're paying for ego. When you pay 375 to see Madonna, it's because the show is high tech, lavish and expensive to put on. You get what you pay for.

Here's an example of those LCD-mesh-netting-monitor thingies. The tech at a Madonna show is incredible - no one else uses this kind of stuff.. (the vocal in this video is an overdub from the album version - not the live vocal)

I agree on this. That explains why the tickets for the Rod/ Stevie tour were steep last year.
Rod had the high tech stage plus his big band to pay for.I do like light shows and the vid screens .but I like to focus on the performer and their band.I wish I get a chance to see madonna in the early 1980 when I like her tunes.I would of enjoy ed her show.At that time I was going to country concerts.

I actually thought the ticket prices for Rod/Stevie were a relative bargain, especially if you consider that you're getting two headline-level acts and 3 hours of music. It wasn't cheap, but it was still less expensive than seeing Fleetwood Mac- a band that is not exactly known for lavish stage productions.

As it turns out, 375 is the maximum ticket price for the entire stadium, excluding VIP packages of course. You also have to consider the stage setup - those rear-field seats will obviously be some of the best seats for her particular setup.

Oh, good Lord, secondary school. I tip my hat to anyone who can handle primary school, it's my idea of hell.

Obviously not as much pain as you are in but I often seem to bite my lip when I'm eating lately. I bite my lip, can you send me away?

So what is the breakdown of one's cashflow working in a salon? I've always wondered. For instance, when I was in college I waited tables and got a very low base salary (something like $2.50/hr) and pretty much had to survive on tips, which were highly variable. Some days I'd go home with $10 after working 16 hours, sometimes I'd make $300 in the 3 hour dinner shift. Is it the same working in salons, or are the tips just icing on the cake?

Yes now I agree on that.Come to think about it.I just realized last August's Stevie show at Jones Beach was the same price as the Rod/Stevie show at the casino here in Connecticut. But I had a blast at the show plus meeting all of you there too.

I am a bit appalled that, after four hours of work, you get only $13 in tips. That is just beyond ridiculous. I just can't believe people... they all want something for nothing. It isn't like a restaurant where a server is dealing with multiple customers simultaneously; each of your customers has your sole undivided attention for half an hour or more. And isn't a perm, like, at least $60 or more? You should have been tipped at least $15 from that alone. Geez... If someone gave me, like, a $5 tip after doing a long, expensive service, I would just tell them to keep it. Obviously they need the money more than me.

It depends on where you work. My husband makes 50% of all service and product sales, plus tips. So, he gets a respectable paycheck plus tips.

Ed, I agree. I used to feel that way when I was bartending or waiting tables. Caitlin needs to get her experience where she is and work her way up to a better salon where people actually tip appropriately for the services they receive.
