The last discussion thread has arrived!!

Nominate up to 10 songs to battle in a Favorite Stevie "extra" song poll.

No demos
No solo recordings
No "Stand Back"
No live versions of previously released songs
Songs must be Fleetwood Mac songs

I'm staying logged on tonight - got a question, just ask!

Silver Springs and No Questions Asked are the only ones I can think of...

OH, Paper Doll.

Not Make Believe.

Sweet Girl?

Does Silver Springs from The Dance count as a live version of a previously released song? This one song could be debatable because it was released as a b-side to Go Your Own Way. I prefer The Dance version.

Sweet Girl counts since it was a new song.

The original B-side version of "Silver Springs" counts.

Fireflies! My absolute favorite song of all time. It embodies everything that Fleetwood Mac is: gorgeous harmonies, superb songwriting, and internal controversy. To me it's kind of The Chain part 2, and could have been a staple song just like The Chain. I'll never get why they haven't played it on all their tours.

I personally consider the Rumours deluxe versions of "Planets of the Universe" and "Think About It" as fully produced final tracks (not demos). And since they were recorded before their solo counterparts, I think they merit consideration. Plus they are vastly different from the solo versions.

Speaking of "Silver Springs," I think it's a shame that the Dance version is not up for consideration since I think it stands a good chance of winning the whole shooting match while the original... not so much. Perhaps an exception should be made in this one instance.

I agree on Silver Springs. The Dance version is, in many ways, THE version of that song. Yes, it almost made it on to Rumours but the song itself did not come into its own until 1997 when it served as the centerpiece of the reunion tour.

Don't know what to think about Planets and Think About it. Yes, both of those "roughs" are pretty darn close to being album worthy, IMO. But both of these songs became solo vehicles in ways that surpass the originals just as the 1997 Silver Springs does its counterpart.

I concur! I think this needs some further consideration.

As far as "Silver Springs" goes, we can do a 1 day poll pitting both versions against each other, with the winning version moving on to the Favorite Stevie "extra" song poll. Like a "Thanksgiving Day Battle of Silver Springs" poll.

As far as "Planet of the Universe" and "Think About It" I wouldn't mind counting them for Stevie, but Lindsey had a few similiar song/demos that were on a deluxe edition of Rumours and Tusk, and those became ineligible.

I really question putting The Dance version of Silver Springs into the countdown for extra songs. There'd really be no point in even having a poll because there's no question that it would absolutely slaughter the others.

But they were Stevie solo songs, right Viv?

On the issue of Silver Springs, I don't see why "Silver Springs" can't count for both versions. If you want to get picky, "Silver Springs [Original B Side]" and "Silver Springs [The Dance]" would do, since there are fans of both versions and it fills up two spots.

Or something. I'm rambling.
