Default Rate: Family Man

There's a bit of debate going on at the Lindsey board about a little song called Family Man. Let us know what the majority opinion of the song is!!

It sort is elevator music. But, I cannot say I hate it mostly due to the great (my opinion) Spanish guitar work.

I voted for Not That Great. The music itself(the guitar work) is good, but the lyrics are kind of silly, in my opinion.

Default Well..

I happen to like this song. I voted for "great". I think the whole song is great except for one thing: the deep distorted voice that says "a family man." If only that part weren't in the song...it would have been one of my favorites. It really does bother me.

My real choice (i.e. "I deeply hate this song") was not there, so I went with the one closest to it.

Really, Lindsey dear, nothing against you or your fans, but you really "lost it" with this horror.

Thumbs up Cool...

Well, it's OBVIOUS how I feel about the song, since I inspired this poll with my discussion!! I love the song, the Spanish guitar, Lindsey's vocals and the simple, yet effective lyrics. It's all good!!

"Walk down this road
when the road gets rough.
I fall down, I get up.

I am what I am, I am what I am...
a family man.

Walk down this road
In the cool of the night.
Don't know what's wrong,
but I do know what's right."

It ain't Shakespeare peeps, but it's Lindsey at a thoughful point in his life, apparently. I get this visual during the last verse, of Lindsey walking, maybe in his neighborhood, at night, perhaps right after sunset, wondering "What am I going to do with my life? Am I gonna stay with FM, am I gonna get married, what should I do?" The nighttime brings about so many different sounds and feelings. You may be scared at night because it's dark and you feel insecure. You may be calm because it's quiet and still. You can think more when you are lying in bed, it's dark and quiet, your mind is RACING and you can't sleep. This may have been written when Lindsey was thinking of leaving FM (no clue), and he was saying to himself "I don't know what's wrong with me wanting to leave, but I do know that's what is right and what I need to do." Maybe Family Man has to do with FM, not marriage/kids or a girlfriend. The mother, father, brother part, well, maybe he looked at FM as a family, Christine is the "mother", Mick is the "father" (Oh Daddy), John is like a "brother" and Stevie...well, I dunno, maybe he was mad at her for being so strung out so he didn't apply her to the song. LOL These are just random thoughts, I have no clue what the song refers to, but I still like it...always will.

Hmmm - Maybe the poll wasn't such a good idea, Christy!! lol
It's pretty even at the moment, and could go either way!

Default Good vote Mac Fan!

The deep voice, if that's what you're referring to, is no doubt Lindsey's voice with synthetic modulation applied.

I still vote for a live rendition this tour, with Mick doing said deep part!

I took a neither dislike nor like stance. I'm really indifferent to this song; it's just kind of there. If I'm in the mood, I listen to it, but I really have no trouble skipping it. The thing that bugs me about it is the terrible overproduction of voices, such as the annoying "Mother Father, Mother Father, Mother Father..." behind him saying, "Mother, Father, Brother..." That deep voice also seems to work on Isn't It Midnight, but not really here. BUT, his guitar work in between verses is very good. I think Lindsey was really into voice alteration during Tango...three songs with them (Big Love -- I believe it is Lindsey doing the girl sounding part of the love grunts, Isn't It Midnight, and Family Man) unless I'm not thinking of one. And now that I think of it, IS that Christine at the beginning of Caroline?

I went for "Great song!"....because...it is!!

Simple & sweet lyrics. Fantastic guitar work. Great melody! Yea it sounds totally 80s.....but that's an added bonus which makes the song even better for me!

It's funny, because the other day I was listening to this song, and I realized I do like it. It's not a favourite, but I don't skip over it either.
