Default Christine McVie 1971 - 1974

Lindsey and Stevie get so much of the attention in Fleetwood Mac, but many don't know what a great collection of songs Christine did with the band prior to their joining.

Today I made myself a little mp3 collection of Fleetwood Mac songs featuring Christine from the pre 1975 period.

I think it actually would have made a great album.

Tracklist

Heroes Are Hard To Find
Remember Me
Morning Rain
Come A Little Bit Closer
Believe Me
Show Me A Smile
Spare Me A Little Of Your Love
The Way I Feel
Homeward Bound
Why

What do you think, Ledgies?

Pretty damned good.
Good running order.
Did you omit 'Did You Ever Love Me' as she sang with Bob Weston?

I didn't think "Did You Ever Love Me" fit well with the other songs. I also couldn't find a suitable place for "Bad Loser" or "Prove Your Love" that didn't drag down the pacing, so I omitted them. It was tough cutting the latter because it is a pretty great song.

What a great idea!

I'm going to make a Christine pre-1975 playlist.

So Excited!

No, that was on her 1984 album.

Her work from this period is intriguing and varied. She clearly grew as a vocalist on record and live: her singing during the Heroes period is so much more sophisticated than it is on either Future Games or Bare Trees. By 1974, she learned how to fully exploit her unique voice in a non 12-bar blues format.

I've tried to compile her 71-74 work in one playlist or on one cd. But her songs from each album are so tied to their respective projects. Show Me A Smile, for instance, is not terribly different on paper from, say, Prove Your Love, but the arrangements and production on each song are so different that they don't fit easily side by side. I don't have a problem compiling a Christine playlist from her 1975-82 (0r even 86) material.

Am I making any sense?

It's a good selection and sequence, but it's missing this song!

So I am adding Prove Your Love. I'm thinking between Remember Me and Morning Rain.

I made a CD that I named CMcV 71-74, which I keep in the car, and play often. I just put the songs in chronological order...

01. Morning Rain
02. Show Me A Smile
03. Homeward Bound
04. Spare Me A Little Of Your Love
05. Remember Me
06. Dissatisfied
07. Did You Ever Love Me
08. Believe Me
09. Just Crazy Love
10. Keep On Going
11. The Way I Feel
12. Why
13. Heroes Are Hard To Find
14. Come A Little Bit Closer
15. Bad Loser
16. Prove Your Love

When playing the disc, "Morning Rain" is a great opening track, and "Prove Your Love" is a nice way to end it. Even though Christine didn't write "Keep On Going", she handles the lead vocals nicely, and the song fits well on this disc!

Thank you, McLamb; I was going to suggest 'Keep on Going' for the list!
