Mick is a lying sack of sh*t. A deluxe scumbag.

So....has anyone listened to The Chain on Spotify yet? I'm not the best at this and some of you are experts at spotting this stuff, but I feel like this is not from the Cleveland 1980 show. It doesn't sound Tusk-era at all. It sounds like it's from the Mirage tour. On my first listen I was like, this sounds familiar. After a couple listens, it's almost spot on to the Mirage video. Like, maybe from the other night at The Forum from the video. Lindsey's guitar sounds more like 1982 and even some of his and Stevie's ad-libs sound like Mirage. Have I lost it or anyone else hearing this?

Yes! You called it. It’s Oct. 22, 1982.

At least it's a different night than the HBO concert.

If they sold the rights to their songs how do they make money from this release?

The album mislabeled The Chain as being from Cleveland 1980 and its really from LA 1982? That's a major mix up, no?

I don’t know how that sort of thing works, but the record company will make money, and they’re the one who’s releasing it, not the band.

I thought so, too. The guitar was definitely from the 82 shows. And Stevie’s cry at the end of each verse was definitely from the Mirage tour. Glad it was confirmed that the actual date was from October 1982.

Re: this version, I am LOVING Christine’s voice on the verses and her extensive organ work on the jam at the end. The entire band is in great form there.

Christine is fabulous here. Her verses are operatic and it's exquisite singing.

I love how they played a long with Lindsey's If You.Do.Not.Love Me now

Were they enjoying this tour? Because to me it sounds like they relished the sound they were making

Mirage was such a short tour, probably no one had time to get burnt out.

True. They also had contractual solo stuff. Stevie was into The Wild Heart and Warner Brothers was pushing for Christine's solo album. Lindsey also did not care for touring at this time and was also going solo. If it had not been for their solo engagements, I bet the Mirage tour would have went much longer.
Stevie loves to brag about herself how devoted she was to the Mac for her to make her first solo tour so short and then ran into the studio for Mirage. What she does not tell you is the band was under contract for the next album to be released so she really had no choice. However, her record company made sure she ran equally fast in the other direction to get the Wild Heart out. The Mirage tour ended 10/31/82. The Wild Heart was released in May 1983. She was married and honeymooned early in 1983 and her solo tour was in rehearsals in April 1983.

I love the Mirage-era Chain. Lovely, weird and complicated guitar intro from Lindsey, where he seems to be playing a melody line with his thumb, rather than his more normal style, where his thumb does the bass work to a melody from his fingers. A bit like the fab solo in Gypsy.

It did always seem like there was a battle between Stevie and Lindsey to get the last word in during The Chain around this time, with Stevie dropping in last minute 'Yeahs' and moans, and Lindsey dragging out his 'never break the chain' as long as he could...
