Default ACLU Version of 'Peacekeeper'...

Hello...

I just downloaded this song from Nancy's web page (great site btw!) and I ask the question: What is this...?
It sounds like Lindsey doing the song on his own with only his vocals and synth-drums. Could it possibly be what he intended for the Gift of Screws-album...? I must say prefer the FM, Stevie's vocals really make a difference...
Finally, what does "ACLU" stand for...?

Please help me out here. I kinda get the idea it's a dumb question, but I'm a newbie...!

Michael..

Thumbs up Yeppers...

ACLU = American Civil Liberties Union. Lindsey recorded PK for, more than likely, his Gift of Screws album. I prefer the solo version to the SYW version, because it's more upbeat and probably because I heard it first. LOL

CV has obviously misplaced his copy of 'How To Win Friends And Influence People.'

Like Amber said, ACLU stands for the "American Civil Liberties Union," which is an organization that works to safeguard the individual rights of US citizens.

Lindsey lent his solo version of "Peacekeeper" to the ACLU, for inclusion on a CD they gave to attendees of their Bill Of Rights Awards dinner in December of 2000.
Stevie's solo song, "Touched By An Angel," was also included on the disc.

Hope that answers your questions, Michael... and welcome to The Ledge.

Oops... Christy and I were posting at the same time.
Oh well, at least we have a consensus as to what ACLU stands for!

I probably give too many details most of the time... but I guess that comes from being a librarian who's used to helping students (and adults!) with research.

Johnny Stew pretty much said it all - but yes, this was probably how it would have sounded for GOS. I personally like this version better, so I try not to listen to it too much and spoil my appreciation for the album one, lol.

Even then I think it's generally been assumed that the song was written too late for it to even have been suggested for inclusion on GOS. Wasn't it around 1999-2000 when he came up with the idea for it?

Isn't GOS still a work in progress? Songs he's writing NOW could conceivably be included on it. 2000 is hardly too late for it to be a prospective GOS song; when Lindsey threatens to pull songs in the DR doc for GOS, which songs do you think he was referring to? Quite possibly one of them was Peacekeeper. Which is why Mick looks turns very, very pale. lol

I thought the same as Gaius if not just for the fact that the sound of Peacekeeper (ACLU) is extremely different to all the GOS stuff. It has a more modern, fresh, and at times electronic sound.
Who knows!

I just downloaded it from Nancy's site (thanks Nancy!) and I have to say that I like this version better then the Mac's. It brings back memories of driving from Madison to Champaign. I had never heard it before Alex (Greatdarkwing) had a copy that we listened to over and over on our drive.
As Joe said it has a more modern and fresher sound then the GOS work.

Thanks for at all the info guys...

Funny to think of the fact that all Lindsey's material on SYW was actually written for the solo album. Also, how big a difference it makes as soon as the words "Fleetwood Mac" get printed on the cover. In terms of how many get to hear it...

Michael

And thanks Johnny Stew. I feel very much at home here ...
