Losing a pet is one of the hardest things to go through. I've lost two dogs and a cat - my cat I'd had for 19 years, longer than I hadn't had him. All their losses still hurt today. My sympathies to you.

But then the worst happened.

I had to put my cat down. BooBoo was around 20 years old. She got too skinny and stopped eating...it was horrible. I can finally type without crying but it's hard. I had her since i was 7 years old. My whole life.

I know there are plenty of cat lovers. Kiss and hug your cat today.

Oh Janet, I'm so sorry. I know exactly how you feel. I lost my little Oreo - who was also around 20 - a few months ago, and even now, if I let think about it too much, I cry. In fact I'm tearing up now. He was so precious to me, and holding him as he was put down was one of the hardest things I've ever done.

I have a new cat now and it does help. At least our cats got to live a long, happy life.

You guys are so amazing-thank you.

I'm so sorry for those of you who just had to put their cats down. I guess it never leaves you...

My best friend had to put her Siamese down, his name was Frostee, in November. She was so strong as she went with me and stayed with me for my BooBoo. My mom had to put Chester down in May ( my cat when I lived at home before 2001 but I hadn't really seen him after that) but my mom let me talk and cry to her too. Everyone was so strong for me even tho they could still feel that pain.

I think about her every second. I will get new cats and my emptiness will be filled, but I want to stay empty for awhile longer...out of respect. She was too special just to replace and forget...

Thank you everyone! Big Hugs.
Janet

Janet, I'm so sorry for the loss of BooBoo. I just had to put down my 3 1/2 year old baby kitty, Gypsy, a couple of weeks ago. She had feline leukemia, so I knew she wouldn't be with me for very long. She was born in my house, so I had her every day of her life. I miss her very, very much.

I did adopt a new kitty over the weekend, one who badly needed a home. She had been a stray and then in a shelter for the last 5 months. She has never known people-loving, so I felt she needed me. But no, it'll never be the same as Gypsy. It does fill some of the gaping hole in my heart, though.

Take good care of yourself and cry as much as you need to. The pain will never fully leave you, but you will eventually remember the good times far more than the end. Take comfort in the fact that you had her for such a long time (even though it's never long enough) and that she was very, very loved. Hugs to you.

Janet, I am so sorry for your loss. I don't yet know what it's like to have to put an animal down, but I sympathize as best as I can because I can understand loving animals deeply.

I met a lady who said she would be getting no more cats because it was too depressing to lose them. I thought that was an extremely sad and depressing outlook and hoped I would never feel this way. This woman was middle aged and probably had to see too many go . I was wondering how people feel about this? Would you stop enjoying pets because you may/will lose them someday? I wish kitties and puppies had much longer lifespans. My Mufasa got lots of extra attention yesterday as instructed, which is a hell of a lot of attention. I never want to lose him but I know it is inevitable. Waah.
