Question

I read that In the Meantime was produced by: Christine McVie, Dan Perfect and Ken Caillat. Is Dan Perfect related to Chris? or is it just a coincidence? Has Dan done any other work for her?

and Bryson:
- It made #133 on the UK Album Charts
- It did not make the Billboard top 200, but made #32 on the independent album charts.
- The single 'Friend' made #29 on the US Adult Contemporary chart
(from http://www.fleetwoodmac-uk.com/album.../meantime.html)

thats all I got...lol
but I don't remember hearing a lot about the release or hearing any of the singles on the radio at the time it was released in 2004.

It got decent airplay for You Are and Friend...

I don't think it sold well... nor was promoted very much... no tour either... just a little gem from our first lady...

Dan is her nephew.

Dan Perfect wrote two of the songs on 'In the Meantime' including one that I think is one of the best songs Chris has ever recorded ("Calumny"), and he co-wrote most of the rest. He also plays guitar on the album. He is an artist and has a website that shows some of his work if you would like to search for it. He's an extremely talented guy ... it must run in the family or something.

I wish he'd record some more of his own music, with or without Auntie Chris.

I used to intern for The River 105.9! That's fun that something about that station is redeemable! It was much more awesome before it became a ClearChannel station.

Yes, Dan's Calumny is one of the Top 5 Christine songs ever, in my book.

Ialso like Northern Star a great deal. It's my second favorite on the album.

I don't think Dan is much of a producer or a guitarist, but he's got fierce songwriting skills, based on those 2. Calumny is the most beautiful, but I think Northern Star would be fantastic live, especially the piano at the close.

These Calumny lyrics are my favorite: Torn, the petals drop. He picks them off one by one. Testing out our love, by proving that it's gone.

Quite amazing.

If I were ever asked to construct an argument that Christine is a great singer I would use "Calumny" as an example. Her vocal is so restrained, yet so emotional. Her vocal on this song is sublime.

Christine is usually at her best singing her own songs, but her performance on "Calumny" was brilliant. She illuminate the lyrics VERY well. I agree with the others, it's one of her best vocal performances.

As for the rest of ITM: I think it is also among Christine's best work. I love every song on the album, and although "Easy Come, Easy Go" is weaker than the others, her vocal on it is fantastic.

Quite frankly, I cannot understand why the album didn't sell more, considering that sounds--in most places--like vintage FM. And "Anything is Possible" should have been a smash.

I heard Stevie's song Talk to Me during my first (and probably last) visit to the Casino Aztar tonight....sadly, she brought me no luck. I lost $10

I totally agree. I think the relative lack of sales was based on lack of promotion. A lot of people (mid-level FM fans, not the diehards like us) might have bought it if they knew it existed, and if they'd heard a song or two from it.

I think Chris recorded this album just for the pleasure of recording it, and I don't think she cared much about sales. That's why it's such a good record. It comes from her heart without a whole lot of fuss from producers/record companies.

I think either "Friend" or "You Are" would have been giant hits if they'd been on a FM album in the '70s or '80s.

Here's a review from the Chicago Sun Times, September 26, 2004:

CHRISTINE MCVIE, "IN THE MEANTIME" (KOCH)

The onetime Christine Perfect is not quite flawless on this post- Fleetwood Mac outing. But McVie's warm ways are abundant on this lightweight yet lovely effort.

"Friend" captures the loping pop that carried Mac from its Peter Green blues roots into the pop-rock-of-the-moment that was the "Rumours" era. Elsewhere, there are the irresistible pop of "You Are," "Anything Is Possible" and "Sweet Revenge."

To be sure, there are no "Songbirds" here, not even a "Heroes Are Hard to Find." But there is sweetness and intelligence to spare, as well as a very real reminder of that single, important ingredient now missing from McVie's former band.
