I agree with Curtis (I think it was him) that most gay movies are pretty bad. I just think it's a new genre and will hopefully get better over time. I like a fair amount of movies in the Top 50 list.

I haven't but I really want to. Todd Stephens did that too, right? (the same guy that did Edge of Seventeen and Gypsy 83) I also want to see Hellbent that's been called the "first gay slasher movie" -

Am I a bad homo if I haven't seen most of these? When I was dating my ex Chuck, we used to rent gay movies from Netflix. Most of them were beyond dreadful. It seemed like 9 out of 10 of them had at least one character (and usually more) who had AIDS, which I found both depressing and infuriating. One that I really liked was called Cowboys & Angels, and I think I liked it mainly because the gay guy in it didn't have AIDS or a meth addiction.

Brokeback Mountain - okay, but I think I could go forever without seeing another movie where the homo comes to a tragic end.

The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert - haven't seen it, and doesn't appeal to me in the slightest

The Sum of Us - I think I may have seen this, but I can't remember what it's about...can someone refresh my memory?

Maurice - I may have seen this one, too, but can't remember

The Birdcage - awful...I cannot stand Robin Williams or Nathan Lane...or Hank Azaria...this movie is a complete and total piece of ****

Adam and Steve - haven't seen it, but I heard it's awful

The Rocky Horror Picture Show - I think I've seen bits and pieces of this...it's not really my thing

Jeffrey - not that great...again, not every gay character has to have AIDS or be in a methodone program

The rest of these, I haven't seen (I don't think):

Latter Days
Beautiful Thing
Trick
Angels in America
Bound
Big Eden
Tipping the Velvet
But I’m A Cheerleader
Desert Hearts
Torch Song Trilogy
Aimee & Jaguar
D.E.B.S.
Die Mommie Die
Better Than Chocolate
When Night Is Falling
Fingersmith
Get Real
Chutney Popcorn
Boys Don’t Cry
Party Monster
Parting Glances
The Broken Hearts Club: A Romantic Comedy
Hedwig and the Angry Inch
The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love
Edge of Seventeen
Soldier’s Girl
Longtime Companion
Saving Face
Girl Play
The Boys in the Band
Making Love
Ma Vie en Rose
And the Band Played On
If These Walls Could Talk 2
Transamerica
Billy’s Hollywood Screen Kiss
Gia
Y Tu Mama Tambien
An Early Frost
Mambo Italiano
Bent
Fire

And someone mentioned Bedrooms & Hallways...another piece of **** I couldn't stand.

There were certainly funny moments in the movie. But overall, I just felt it was one more big silly cartoon about queens. The script didn't have much regard for any of the characters. Everyone was a farce. I didn't feel that the parts were written with any humanity. God knows I love a silly movie. Nothing like a John Waters film! But this thing bugged the hell outta me. Something about the way those two act like homos (even though Nathan Lane is gayer than Liberace at a bathhouse)
comes off as demeaning and lurid.
Thank you!!!

You've summed up my feelings about this movie perfectly.

But, Diane W. made that film; she stole every scene she was in and I could not wait for her in the scenes she was not in. Though, I must say, the butching up of Lane was HYSTERICAL - at least to me!!!!

Gia is just okay. I used to absolutely love it. not so much anymore. I never could stand Madame Fishlips Jolie, but I'll still drag it out to watch every now and then.

I haven't seen all of And The Band Played On, but what I've seen so far, I like. Any good? Worth renting?
