Default Fleetwood Mac influence on Led Zeppelin

Just checking out some online reviews of today's Led Zeppelin reunion show in London and thought of the accounts I've read that the band modeled "Black Dog" on the structure of "Oh Well Part 1" (with the alternating guitar and vocal passages). This seems to be pretty well documented from what I can tell.

It also seems to me that the later part of "Black Dog" is not unlike the end of "The Green Manalishi", with a rather expressive guitar solo played against a more simple, repeating musical phrase. Not sure that I've ever heard of "Manalishi" being a possible influence, though. Anyone else hear a similarity there or am I just imagining things?

funny and ironic because i was just playing those 2 very songs the other night. i haven't played any Green era FM in a long time and I felt like hearing Oh Well. Then I put on Zep to hear Misty Mountain Hop, which had been going through my head for the past few days (ever since I heard the "lost" version from Song Remains...) so I left the cd on and Black Dog came on and I was thinking that this song was hugely influenced by Oh Well. Very neat! I'm glad my 2 favorite bands get along so well! Or, is that oh well?!

All that and Jimmy Page sounds great playing "Oh Well" itself (witnessed by the version he did with The Black Crowes). I thought that was pretty funny...a whole set of The Black Crowes doing LZ tunes with Jimmy Page, then out of the blue (but not out of place) comes "Oh Well".

Another Led Zep song that seems to have been majorly influenced by Fleetwood Mac (or Peter Green in particular) is "Ten Years Gone" from Physical Graffitti. DEFINITE "Green Manalishi" influence on it.

Very good ear here, Steve. I agree. I totally adore physical graffiti by the way.
