I know a friend emailed me a pic of Teddy rolling his eyes LMAO.

Now, I didn't hear that at all.

He wants to increase education in this area. What is the big deal? How can you argue with the fact that IT IS THE ONLY WAY to prevent pregnancy and STDs?

Unlike some conservatives, I think it is good to have education on all these things, including providing condoms. I don't stick my head in the sand and pretend that if I don't talk about it, it won't happen.

Kids are gonna do what they are gonna do. Parents need to take a more active role in this type of education for their kids. Lord knows, I didn't get it from my parents!

BTW - I am for drug testing in schools.
Oh, they should mention it. But what they want to do is ditch the safe sex education and focus only on abstinence; that's a big mistake.

As for drug testing in schools, I don't support it. I think it's an invasion of privacy that should not be conducted by a school and it's staff.

I do know, however, that Bill Clinton signed an Executive Order making it illegal to fire a govt. employee solely on the grounds that they are gay. To his credit, W has not rescinded that Order. Also, I do not think W is against gay people per se. I just think he has run out of demons to point to in an attempt to rally his conservative far right religious base. So, he selects gay people because he knows gay people are hated (I know of no other adequate word) by the conservative far right religious base. Notice, btw that W cleverly did not mention civil unions. He, and more importantly Karl Rove, will let the talk show guests right now address that.

Finally, I agree, the SOTU is a big pow wow about stuff few actually believe.

You make some good points.
I realize the religious right makes up a large number of Republicans, but it's not all of us.

My mother took me to lunch in 8th grade to tell me about "the birds and the bees".

She had barely choked out those words when I told her that I had known what sex was since I was in first grade! And she had the nerve to look shocked!

Sorry - I thought you were saying don't even teach abstinence.

I thjnk the drug testing should be done in situations like sports, erradic behavior, probable cause, etc. I do not support random drug testing although I am not vehemently opposed to it as the govt. does have a legitimate interest in ensuring kids attend school in a drug free environment. I mean, the school can search a locker . . .

I agree. Schools have tested those in "extra-curricular" activities for awhile now.

Searching a locker and testing someones piss is quite different.

I am vehemently opposed to school drug testing. I think in certain cases (like the ones you mentioned), the parents should have the power to have drug tests taken. Not the school; it's not their place.
