My Week With Marilyn
I don't know the details of Marilyn's life, so I don't know how accurate this movie is to her life. But it was a very enjoyable movie. Michelle Williams did a very good job portraying Miss Monroe. Nice soundtrack also. The Adventures of Tin Tin I really thought I would like this one, but it was boring. Maybe if I were ten years old I'd think different. It looked great though. Young Adult I rented this Charlize Theron movie because the character Patton Oswalt played is a carbon copy of one of my friends. Almost like my own bizarro world. I thought the movie was interesting and sad. One of those movies that couldn't really decide if it wanted to be a serious drama or comedy. |

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
I'd really been looking forward to this one. It was pretty good all in all, but I think I'll have to give it a second watch. Lots of stuff going on if you know what I mean. I do think the original version might have been better. Tower Heist A couple of laughs, that's about it. The Muppets How old am I??? Oh well, it was so-so at best. Not enough face time for the Swedish Chef. |

Has this turned into Movies You Watched This Week (either DVD or at the cinema)?
I saw Wanderlust last week. It was far funnier than I expected. Jennifer Anniston was the best part but there were some sniggers, some laughs out loud and some OMG WHAT IS HAPPENING THIS IS SO AWKWARD BUT SO FUNNY moments. I'd recommend it if you've had a bad day and need cheering up. Ultimately it's a feel-good film. Tonight I'm off to see The Hunger Games |

SHAOLIN
Consummate command of the camera, but it's hard to tell where the camera ends & the CGI begins in today's movies, which, despite all their excitement, rarely move me as profoundly as the work of an old master like Ozu, with whom I also spent some time this week . . . A STORY OF FLOATING WEEDS (1934) Ozu must have been a fascinating fellow to follow chronologically, for those viewers who got to. Most of us probably went at him in reverse, seeing his later (and greater) work and then seeking out his early films like this. I remember seeing HER ONLY SON, another early '30s film, in college. Also watched this week the Geraldine McEwan MISS MARPLE -- all four of them. Great casts, by the way, with just about everyone you'd expect to see actually showing up as someone or other.

Hugo
Eh....didn't really grab me as I thought it would. Friends thought I'd love it, but alas, no. The Muppets Loved it! I even laughed out loud a few times, which I rarely do when watching something alone. Young Sherlock Holmes I never tire of this movie. |

Though Kermit's sounds close. On a positive note, I did like Walter. |

Melancholia
This Kirsten Dunst movie looked like it would be interesting. And there are parts in the movie where the imagery live up to that. But it fails in the end. The Rebound Catherine Zeta-Jones is just not enough to get through this entire movie. I usually can make myself sit through most any movie, but not this one. Horrible. London Boulevard Staring Colin Farrell and Keira Knightley turned out to be pretty good. An ex-con that just can't seem to break away from his past. Eric Clapton - One More Car, One More Rider Wow, what a great concert. Of course the db level was at concert level in my living room (DTS). I needed some musical inspiration, and that hit the spot. Rent or buy this disc. |

Final Destination 5 - I just can't help myself. Trash, but really fun trash. Better than the last one.
Paul - Dorky film, but I kinda liked it. |

Tried to watch The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo but could not get through it. Too dark.

Stage Fright- Marlene Dietrich (whom I adore) and Alfred Hitchcock, what more could anyone ask for. Loved it.
Brief Encounter- I think I watched this at the same time last week lol. Love it, Celia Johnson has one of the most beautiful faces I have ever seen. She has a quirky smile which I love. Love it.

Manhattan. I never really had much exposure to Allen growing up, so I'm only know watching all of his back-catalogue. I can appreciate the style, the dialogue, the cleverness of it all...but sometimes I do find him to be really irritating.

Midnight In Paris was pretty decent. I wish he would have chosen a different actor for the lead role though. |

Miss Bala
Shouldn't it be titled Miss Baja? Anyway, a movie that's thoroughly depressing. A woman gets caught up (used) in the Mexican American drug war. I think the movie claimed over 30,000 people have been killed in the last six years. But we all wear our blinders on this subject it seems. What a crazy world we live in. |

I finally saw The Hunger Games. I have to say I wasn't really impressed. I felt like I was watching The Running Man, but with teenagers. Hmpf. The performances weren't too bad. The movie just wasn't great. Not bad either. 7/10, tops.
