Talking Favorite Vocals

After the riot that was caused over on the Rumours board over some rather bland vocals, why don't we talk about our favorites. Here are mine:

Every song from Tusk!
Straight Back
That's Alright
Silver Springs (The Dance)
Everybody Finds Out
Trouble In Shangri-La (not only a fab vocal, but one of her best lyrically!!!)
Fall From Grace
Love Is
Long Way To Go
Edge of Seventeen
Nothing Ever Changes
Sable On Blonde
Goodbye Baby

That's a good one, too. I think she rocked on If You Ever Did Believe, also. At first I thought Sheryl Crow was singing the high background parts, but when I saw the video, it was Stevie.

Not Make Believe <-- sexayy vocals. I swear that song was seriously sped up. If those are the results they should do it more often!!

My alltime favorite vocal from Stevie is on Beautiful Child.

Apart from that:

Landslide
Silver Springs (77 & 97)
Rock A Little
Garbo
At Last
Gate & Garden
Storms
Doing The Best That I Can
Insider
Rose Garden
If You Ever Did Believe
Nightbird
Midnight Wind
Goodbye Baby
Seven Wonders
Silent Night
Destiny
Running Through The Garden
Sorcerer
Leather & Lace (demo versions)
Twisted (soundtrack version)

My friends are usually surprised to learn that Landslide (Fleetwood Mac) & Rhiannon (The Dance) are even sung by the same person, given how much Stevie's voice has matured. I like the whole spectrum for different reasons... in the early days it was pure & beautiful; in the early/mid 80s she had the smoke-and-whisky thing going on (like in I Sing For The Things-- I think it's gorgeous, but I know a lot of people hate that), and now her voice has a depth and warmth to it that is very heavy, very comforting.

Sorry I left these off my list!

(p.s. I thought I was the only one who preferred Enchanted's Sweet Girl to The Dance's.)

Hmmm-way too many too list but the first few that come to mind:

SARA-beautiful perfect vocal with the slight echoey effect-sums up all that was perfect with the sound of the Mac at that time

Whenever I Call You Friend- a very spirited vocal, reaching and sustaining high notes (and sounding very natural at it too!) that I don't think she had done before or since. Also incredible clarity in her vocal and just the right amount of Eartha Kitt growling in parts.

Wild Heart-I think it was the RS review for The Wild Heart where they said (about the title song) something like "her voice is not a perfect instrument technically but when she cranks it up she can wail with the best of the blues mamas" and belt it out she does, a la Janis, in parts of that "epic" song. Gawd I remember playing that song so loud on the big clunky headphones in high school and just thinking how incredible and INTENSE it was. Still is!
