VIDEO - Queen Latifah performing new pop/rock single sampling The Chain
"Cue the Rain," the first single from Queen Latifah's forthcoming CD, features a hefty lyrical sample from "The Chain" during the song's bridge. The song is pop/rock, not hip hop/rap.
At the two minute mark she appropriates "If you don't love me now, you will never love me again, I can still hear you saying you'd never break, never break the chain." I wasn't aware that she debuted the song during the recent American Idol finale. This video is from a recent performance on the David Letterman Show. |

And on THAT note, I'm going to bed. Damn, Tifa is sporting stretch pants now? I don't want this song or image in my mind anymore...I prefer a "Set It Off" Queen. Nite y'all.

I've always liked Queen Latifah, mainly as in actress in Set if Off, Chicago, etc., but this is just a waste of everyone's time.
But, the song/video is yet another example of FM/SN's influence on new music, good or bad. Not a week goes by that a new FM/SN cover song, sample, dance mix, etc. doesn't appear somewhere. This song, Susanna Hoffs/Matthew Sweet's cover of Second Hand News (with Lindsay on guitar), teen pop-singer Sky Ferreira's cover of Stand Back, and the lead singer for Nickelcreek's cover of Steal Your Heart Away have all appeared during the last four weeks (I think...), |
