Not bad at all. The Gourds did the ultimate IKINW-cover though. Thanks for the heads up!

I lost it, Betsy, but you can get it here:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...eofficia0b5-20

It's an official album, I don't own it but I guess it's worth buying used for a couple of bucks. That Gourdsversion is exquisite: really raw and folky.

Thanks Gerald! I ordered it today.

My office environment is kind of stressful (co-workers) so I like to be able to keep myself calm...and not get dragged into the drama.

The 1990s

Chicago-based rockers the 1900s have been compared to an indie-rock version of Fleetwood Mac. And while that might not sound enticing, the band's latest disc, Cold and Kind, issued late last year on Parasol Records, is. Much like Rilo Kiley's Jenny Lewis, the group's female vocalists Jeanine O'Toole and Caroline Donovan have voices equally suited to rock, pop and folk. Songs such as "When I Say Go" and "Bring the Good Boys Home" are gentle folk-tinged tunes with eclectic arrangements that alternately sound contemporary and retro. The Muttering Retreats and Nicholas Megalis open at 9 p.m. at the Grog Shop (2785 Euclid Ave., 216.321.5588). Tickets: $7. - JN

The 1900s

These days, most bands are like the cardboard sleeve around your coffee cup: made from at least 60 percent recycled material. Lead guitarist Ed Anderson has called the 1900s' sound "psychedelic Motown" and pundits have compared them to the Zombies, Fleetwood Mac and Belle and Sebastian. On their full-length debut "Cold & Kind," they evoke the latter so directly it's distracting to the point of eject. Onstage at the Rock & Roll Hotel Wednesday night, the Chicago seven-piece band was thankfully more distinctive: It played aggressively enough to put direct comparisons on the back burner and delivered a set that was mildly charming.

Most of the appeal derived from singers Jeanine O'Toole and Caroline Donovan, whose sassy leads and throaty harmonies lent songs like "When I Say Go" and "Acutiplantar Dude" a satisfying crackle. The outfit leaned into their catchiest original, "Georgia," with brevity and zest. The zing was less palpable most other times, especially when Anderson, who also took some lead vocals, stretched out the band's folk-rock templates. "Two Ways" ended up mushy -- ranking with the stale air of Crosby, Stills & Nash album filler. That wasn't entirely an aberration, since the night's strongest moment was delivered from well-worn California ground: a muscular take on Fleetwood Mac's "I Know I'm Not Wrong."

If the 1990s can transfer the energy they tapped on that interpretation to writing originals, they'll eventually be more than competent reassemblers.

The opening set from locals the Positions was easier to swallow: fresh-scrubbed pop with a mild pinch of ska.
