I was happy that he did a FM song, and I have been a fan of his so far. However, the song was a little bit of a letdown. It's such a passionate (angry) song that it's uncomfortable to see someone sing it in a pop, *upbeat* style.

i agree, he wrote that song and sang it with such emotion, lindsey not the idol kid. no emotion when he sang it tonight. nice that they kicked off idol with a FM song.

Sorry, but Michael Johns didn't do the song justice.
On a side note, we lost our cable & will probably miss the rest of the show. Lee |

^^haha the kids in my AP class were ripping on the poor kid [danny] today.
i thought david archuleta was HORRIBLE[the kid who did the Lennon song], you dont mess with Lennon I didnt see the whole preformance of GOYW, but the mini clip at the end dissapointed me. I told my mom i hope that Lindsey didnt see it, he would probably be disturbed. I mean, nice that FM is finally being preformed on Idol, and that the kid who did the song is one of the better guys in the top 20, but...its just not...the same. I can tolerate covers if they do the song jusitce, and I dont feel as though it was preformed as it should have been. JMO |

Can't say I liked it... What did the judges say about it? No matter what song he'd chosen I don't think I'd have been impressed by him.

They didn't like it either. Said it was a wrong song choice for him.

Thanks Texas, for posting that video.
~~~ Da band shudda been LOUDER ~~~ With LB's rendition, I feel like there is this competition... Lindsey trying to outsing, outplay, outlast, --- his own guitar... It's the Ultimate Survivor Competition ... (With that being said, I did like the kid's singing...the ending was sorta abrupt though.) |
Yeah, I just thought there could have been more "umph" behind it. That's as well as I can describe it. I don't think I'm used to his voice yet...it seems like he struggles a bit with hitting those higher, more powerful notes.
From the Express, a free daily Washington newspaper, published by the Washington Post:
http://www.readexpress.com/read_free...more_slump.php MICHAEL JOHNS The formidable Aussie has wowed the judges with his renditions of songs from The Doors' "Light My Fire" to a remarkable take on Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody." He's apparently "a bit of a jock," he tells us in his intro interview. "Tennis is a really good way for me to, like, just take my mind off everything that's going in this whole crazy 'Idol' world," he says. The serve he tries to hit tonight is Fleetwood Mac's "Go Your Own Way," a song whose Lindsey Buckingham-provided vocals seem deceptively simple — until you actually start singing them. Johns stumbles a bit at first, with a note or two off key, but a few seconds in, he mounts a Mac attack of his own. It's a brave choice for him, since most of his songs have been the kind of throaty flamethrowers that really show off his voice. This one, however, displays more of his range. (Watch here.) It's not his best work, but it's better than most would be able to do. "Started a little slow for me, but you kinda got into it," Randy says. "I was ready for you to, like, just let go, but it didn't quite go there, but I liked it though." "You're consistent, consistent," Paula says. "You're charismatic, you're a seasoned performer, and you're charming — and I think you're already there." Also already there is the large pendant around Paula's neck that seems to act as an arrow pointing viewers to her low-cut top. It's distracting like there's no tomorrow. "It was by far your weakest performance of the whole competition so far for you. ... It was a very weak choice of song for you," Simon says, before the boos cut him off. "From a woman's point of view, I don't think it was weak at all," interjects the smirking face attached to the neck above Paula's pendant. Was it the right song? "To sing a Fleetwood Mac song has been a dream for me, so absolutely," Michael says. He should expect a gift basket from Stevie Nicks to arrive shortly. Don't let any cops see it. |
From the Rochester City News:
http://www.rochestercitynewspaper.co...A+Top+10+guys/ Michael Johns "Go Your Own Way" He said it was a dream for him to sing a Fleetwood Mac song. I wonder if that dream included him butchering it. He was SO KARAOKE! God. And way off pitch, too. Shrieky. Just terrible. I'm pretty sure he dropped some lyrics in the middle. Why pick a song that's out of your range in the chorus? Interestingly, while he sounded like Jim Morrison last week, this week it was straight-up Eddie Vedder. His on-stage performance was like something out of a Blind Melon video. Of course, the judges love him. I wait with baited breath for the day that they finally, inevitably turn on him. |
