Cool Stevie Songs as Seen/Heard Through the Eyes of a BuckHead

you know how youtube is full of videos of SN parading in the top hat instead of videos of LB playing solos and letting fans strum his guitar during GYOW?

you know how Lindsey fans may not be that delighted to listen to a lot of adult contemporary type of songs instead of LB's rockers or baroque-y lush guitar pieces?

this year i finally had a chance to see FM in action. i was worried that as a primarily a Lindsey fan i will hate FM shows. but, turns out that there is a lot of stuff for Lindsey-fans to do during SN songs. like, watch and interact with Lindsey who has time to interact with audience the way he doesn't during his solo shows.

so while i will still complain about having to listen to many songs i don't like, not being able to influence the setlist changes or get any requests, show not going off track almost ever, outrageous ticket prices, having to be at a huge arena instead of at a nice intimate venue, no m&gs with LB where you can file all your complaints about the show with him (unless he drops in on Mick's like he did in Vancouver and Tacoma), i have to say there's still a lot of fun to be had as a LB fan at FM show during SN songs.

i've seen some nice examples among recordings from this year's tour, and so here are 2 i saw today, Stand Back and Gold Dust Woman (a SN song that i actually love) -

and, did i mention Mick? <3

Love this idea! I have a couple videos in mind but I'll start with this one:

Love how he sticks his tongue out at 2:00 and then of course the gorgeous guitar solo starting at 3:09. Lots of other smiles throughout the video and I also love how he sings along even when he's away from the mic.

I told you he'd keep your attention, and make her songs more bearable

Anyways, I love Landslide, and seeing them together while performimg it...but truth be told, all I really see is Lindsey, even on that one

I actually couldn't see Stevie (or John) well from my vantage point, but I'd sometimes catch a glimpse of her, and it startled me...seriously I was so focused on Linds, I forgot the others were there

Even the drunk singers couldn't ruin this song, or Lindsey's playing...

I love the premise of this thread. And there's some great clips here! Stand Back is a particular favourite of mine. LB is a fantastic showman even when he's in the backseat.

It's always a bit sad for me how people seem to only really enjoy the output of one songwriter or the other, rather than all of them, but it seems really common in Mac fandom. My partner actively dislikes Lindsey's songwriting and singing, and my sister actively dislikes Christine's (I guess she has it easy these days). It's completely understandable, but it still kinda bums me out and can't make things very easy. Glad you LB fans have found ways to enjoy the whole concert. These clips are awesome.

Body language dictates it looked more to me like(even though I can't see LB's mouth) LB was having a quick conversation with Mick. Mick's probably learned to read lips cause I'm sure he wouldn't be able to hear Lindsey.

I definitely like what Fleetwood Mac as a group does. Of course, Lindsey is my favorite. I really enjoy the majority of Stevie's songs. I definitely love Christine's songs. I also like to listen to Bob Welch, Danny Kirwan, and Billy Burnette.

I agree Dex. I find it sad and amusing how the fans of each member feel the need to tear down the other's faves. Many of Lindsey's fans deplore Stevie. Many of Stevie's fans deplore Lindsey. Everyone seems to like Christine but if anyone says anything bad about her they get jumped on by everyone.

no reason to be sad.

you can't push down people's throats something they don't like or they are indifferent to, and life is too short to try to make yourself like something, especially when it is entertainment, that is there in the first place to make your life nicer and easier, more relaxed. it's not supposed to be work, it's supposed to be fun. and the posts and videos in this thread show how it can actually be a lot of fun, without having to like every song in the set, or even if you are indifferent to one of the performers / band members, but a huge fan of the other. especially if that other performer does everything in his/her power to make it worthwhile to everybody.

as far as different fan interactions, i found at these shows, where i met many primarily SN fans too, that we can all enjoy the shows and happily co-exist together, be respectful of each others' tastes and views, because in the end we are all there to have fun. i've really enjoyed meeting many different hard-core fans in front of the stage at the few shows i attended.

I like all three of the devils just fine. I will say that during The Dance tour, during Stand Back, I never looked at Stevie even once as she performed that song during the entire tour. I just stared at Lindsey and Christine the whole time.

Generally speaking though, I like Stevie during Stand Back and feel I have seen her doing it solo enough that not seeing her sing it during The Dance tour didn't hurt anything.

Yep! I met a lot of Stevie fans, and enjoyed the show standing right next to some of them We love who we love, that's all. Funny, because some were very over the top in their clothing, make-up, etc., which did make me chuckle a little...BUT, everyone just started talking, and it's not as if it was difficult to hold an enjoyable conversation Far from it! All the fans got along fine - Chiffs, Buckheads, new fans, old fans...everyone

Perhaps I didn't express myself very well. I didn't mean that Mac fans didn't get along or that people needed to be forced to like anything. Far from it. But it's just kind of a bummer that there are huge chunks of the Mac catalogue that many fans don't get much out of. There are loads of artists that I can't get into, similarly, and that's a bummer too, because I often do feel like I'm missing out on something. The fact that that happens within FM fandom as a result of different songwriting styles within the band is just one of the more perplexing and unique things about the Mac. Perhaps "interesting" would've been the word to use over "sad". Didn't mean anything by it, guys.

And yes, elle. I agree with your sentiment. It is great that all the members of the band ensure that there's something for everyone to enjoy. And I'm pleased you enjoyed your first FM concert so much.

Well no one has control over what their tastes are, and no one needs to defend their likes and dislikes. What is sad though (and fortunately this only applies to a few) is when the fans of one seem to actively go out of their way to make sure they don't enjoy anything about the other(s) at all. That's just silly, and you are only hurting yourself.

Of course not. But when I dislike something that a lot of other people enjoy, I do find it a bit sad. And when I like a band but have to qualify it because I only enjoy particular eras or members, that too is a bit sad to me. It's not something I have to defend though, absolutely. But surely the enjoyment of more stuff is optimal. And I agree wholeheartedly with the rest of your post.
