I'm almost 40 - but I gotta say some of the best music I've heard in my life is stuff from artists who made their debut in the last 15 years, so I picked the 2000's.

Well, considering some of my favorite songs from the 60's were actually WRITTEN in the 30s & 50s (can you say "Robert Johnson" & "Willie Dixon"? I knew that you could), I'm at a loss as to which decade I really can call my favorite.
20's & 30's: the heyday of Delta Blues 40's: Big Band swing 50's: BeBop & Bossa Nova Jazz, Electric Chicago Blues, (had a baby and it was called) Rock & Roll, Les Paul & Mary Ford 60's: Folk revival (including later in the decade, the Folk/ROCK movement), Surf music, British invasion (pop, rock & blues throughout the decade), Psychedelia 70's: Other than disco & punk later in the decade, what label can we give to the first half of the decade? Kind of a mixed bag o' stuff....singer/songwriters, Prog Rock (Yes, ELP, early Genesis), Art Rock (Kinks, Bowie, Roxy Music, etc), Jazz Fusion (Weather Report, Return To Forever), Reggae 80's: "New Wave", "Post Modern", "Hair Metal", Ska, "urban cowboy" 90's: Grunge & "New" Country Y2K's: ??? 70's & 80's retro-revival 10's: American Idol I guess not so much my favorite "decade"...but "Half Century" would be from the 20's through the 70's (with a bit of emphasis on 60's & 70's, since those were my peak music discovery years).

It's close but I went with the 80's.
Iron Maiden, Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax, Testament, Dio, Ozzy Osbourne, Guns n' Roses, Def Leppard, The Clash, Depeche Mode, Prince, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson. etc.

seventies. also because of Tusk. And close to that, the nineties, when all the indie-rock-bands that got inspired by Tusk came to fruition, aside from grunge, that I love dearly too.
