Does that mean you forgive Nixon? As a wise professor of mine used to say - "just because you got some jackass to grant you a pardon doesn't mean you are not a criminal"

Actually, I do forgive President Nixon. In reality, he was one of the most liberal presidents we've had for the last forty years.

I actually did not mind Nixon, esp., his foreign policy.

I always wonder if Ticky Dick actually knew the extent of what they were doiong and what was really on those 17 (?) minutes of erased tape. I guess we will never know

Nixon and Ford were both fairly moderate. I think Nixon's problem was that he had little confidence in himself. Ford's problem was he was Nixon's VP. In actuality, Ford had a lot of integrity.

Oh the other hand, don't you think if Bush's military service records were exemplary they'd be waving them in our face over and over? Of course they would. He's hiding something and in a case of classic addictive behavior, he thinks it's just going to go away if he ignores it long enough. He's a deserter.

Oh, make no mistake, I minded Watergate and the dirty tricks. However, no one loves a peacemonger more than a liberal and Nixon spent a lot of time going around establishing diplomatic relations with other governments, ending the draft and the Viet Nam war. That's a pretty liberal policy for any Republican. He was also a true conservative in the sense that he wanted to give more power back to state and local governments. he was a million times brighter than that tree stump currently occupying the White House.

I liked President Ford as well. Someone talked about Bush getting dealt a ****ty deck of cards. If anyone got that it was Ford. His wife also indirectly saved the life of Stevie Nicks. Gotta love 'em.

I agree, he would be waiving them. But, that is not proof he was a deserter or at least proof that directly contradicts the NG having no apparent problem with his service record. It could be that he served his time in the NG but was not that stellar and they do not want to publicize that.

Again, I think he has lots to answer for in this area. I just think labelling him a deserter has no basis in the facts as we know them because the NG certainly prosecuted many deserters.

I agree. But, as my mother used to always tell me "You think you are so smart, but you still got caught!"

Yes. poor Ford. I mean he had no chance.

He gets like several hundred thousand $$$ every year as deferred compensation. Also, he still own something like 433,000 stock options. So, although Cheney had to put all of this away while VP, he clearly still has a vested interest in it.
