Default Bwana became...what?

This struck me as interesting. Eyes of the World went through many evolutions as attested to on some of the Mirage outtakes that have leaked through the years. But I guess I never really heard how this evolved into the other...

Q. Was Mick’s trip to Africa the inspiration for “Bwana?”

LB. Basically. It’s pretty light-hearted. Again, there’s a song with some of the ‘40s influence on it. It really isn’t very African at all, musically. It has some of that “Lion Sleeps Tonight” in it. The lyrics were actually written at the very end, after we’d done the tracks and the backing voices. The drum track for “Bwana” started out as being something very different. Eventually, that track turned into another song called “Eyes of the World,” which may be on the next Fleetwood Mac album. That happens to me a lot. Songs turn into other songs. Parts of one song are right for another. You never know.

Thanks for the interesting tidbit, Les. Two of my favorite Buckingham pieces are related. "Bwana," especially, is beautifully constructed, & might be the only song in the canon that outros on a dominant 7th, which provides a nice tension because our ears are trained to expect a dominant 7th to resolve somehow. "Bwana" doesn't resolve musically, but just fades out on tiptoe. The pieces of "Bwana" are all so fascinating, & the lead vocal is Lindsey's finest ever, to these old ears. "Bwana" is a work of art!

Talking Very Interesting!!!! {Artie Johnston!}

You all are such song detectives! Lindsey makes a good point of one song developing into another...all musicians do this either consciously or perhaps un-consciously! Even Church hymns can be repetitive!
Tunes grow in our mind living in our heart and soul!

Sting told of this happening to him! He says he hears other ppls songs and uses their ideas...he said all song writers are thieves! { this is a loose quote but it is from Stings BTM from UK home base!} Cheers!Sky

p.s. Iam one who appreciates all music! Even Law and Order!haha!

If you include Richard Dashut, Todd Sharp & George Hawkins, it would be FOUR Scared White Guys Getting Chased Out of Zimbabwe.
