I had no knowledge of Hernan until now, But I speculate, in her patchwork style of writing, she might have pulled out some lines or verses about her involvement with him and that particular time to write Destiny Rules. That doesn't mean the song is solely about one person or thing. Most of her songs don't have a singular focus or subject matter.
