Mick Fleetwood phoned Stevie and Lindsey asking them to join FM....

i have a few questions about this:
1. Why did Mick choose New Years Eve to call them?
2. What was everyone doing that day?
3. Who answered the phone? Was it Lindsey? Did he say, "hold
on..." and then tell Stevie?
4. Did they say yes right away?

I was under the impression that they didn't say yes right away...Lindsey wasn't ecstatic about the idea at first, which leads me to believe that they had to tell Mick they'd think about and get back to him....was this when Stevie went out and bought all of the FM albums and decided that they actually could add something to the band without taking away from their own style?

I think they made plans for the band to eat out together before any official "joining" took place.
Also, I've read conflicting reports, but according to one, Lindsey's friend showed up at Lindsey's and Stevie's New Year's party and told them of Mick's interest.

maybe it was Keith Olson since he was the one that played the record for Mick...maybe he showed up at Lindsey and Stevie's New Year's bash and told them then....who knows....

As I recall, Bob Welch announced that he was leaving the band on NYE 1974 and Mick subsequently made the call to Buckingham/Nicks.

Who knows who answered the phone but the initial desire was to recruit a guitar player and therefore Mick would've asked to speak to Lindsey.

What ever the answer is, I am glad it happened as it has created a magic that seems endless. There will never be another Fleetwood Mac and their timeless creative bond has always been in the forefront of the music industry. The greatest band that ever was and the greatest band that will ever be.

I want to say that's in Mick's book. Gee, how could I forget such a reliable source?
