Roger Cotton - A Long Way Back
For those of you who wonder about the other ex-Splinter Group member...
Roger Cotton released an album in November 2008, featuring ex-Bluesbreaker Buddy Whittington (John Mayall disbanded the Bluesbreakers recently to concentrate on other projects). It contains Roger's new versions of the SG songs "Nice Girl Like You", "Real World", "Nothin' Gonna Change It" and "Dangerous Man", plus other originals ... perhaps intended for the next Splinter Group album which didn't happen. (But they were also planning a "Blues Don't Change vol. 2" before the break-up). The music is similar to SG's sound. But personally I won't bother buying it, since Peter's not on it. You can listen here: http://www.arkade.com/default.aspx?a...&c=ArtistMusic And here's more info, including sleeve notes: http://www.note-music.co.uk/RogerCotton01.html The album is dedicated to Peter Green (among others) for teaching him about the blues. So I guess there is no evil between the two, at least not from Roger's side. Does anybody know anything about the other ex-SG member? Stroud? Tolfree? Or perhaps most interesting .. Watson? |

Well, from reading the liner notes of Roger's album, Pete Stroud plays bass on a few tracks.

Splinter(ed) Group Enigma

Stroud? Tolfree? Or perhaps most interesting .. Watson? Great you found this! I too have often wondered what has happened to these people after the split up, what their part in it was and how they experienced it, having worked together for so many years. It must have been very strange. I suppose they - like Nigel Watson - have been gagged (is this the right word - if not what about "muzzled"?) - by the court order not to mention the case. There is so many weird break-ups of working relationships in the "PG story", and it is such a pity. Ms Moose |

Other Splinter Group Members
First time registered on this board and probably already well documented but here goes.
Pete Stroud and Roger Cotton made two UK tours last year in Buddy Whittington's band. (Buddy was in John Mayall's Bluesbreakers for many years until recently and is well worth seeing live as you would expect from a Mayall guitarist, he is supporting Gary Moore on a UK tour in the coming months and I assume Pete and Roger will be in the band again.) Pete Stroud also plays with the guitarist Papa George. No info I'm afraid on Larry Tolfree or Nigel Watson. The last time I saw the Splinter Group was in Aldershot of all places just before the break-up. I remember a comment Nigel made at one point during the show when introducing a song he referred to difficulties he was having with bailiffs. Supported the reasons that the band split and others took control of Peter Green's affairs. |
