I looked on the Los Angeles Superior Court website and Gary Briggs filed for divorce from Kristen Messner Briggs on July 12, 1996.

Well, I'm always on that site for work. I'm usually in "Civil," but I thought I'd look at the "Family" public index and see what was there for Briggs.

I wonder how long they were separated before he filed? or was there a separation?

We had a drink and have never been apart since." elle decor

Just curious Luke - did Gary tell you this personally? Also, did Gary tell you he was the reason for GOS to be held up?

Thanks

Wasn't Gary Briggs thanked in Stevie's TISL tour book? Seems odd that she would work with LB's new wifes ex husband. I know the music business is incestuous but if GB and LB had that contentious of a relationship that he tried to hold up the release of GOS, that Stevie would work with this guy much less thank him in her liner notes.

As for Kristen, I know it's not PC to say but in my opinion she's a gold digger. She knew a good thing when she saw it. He's 25 years older than she is, come on people it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what she saw in LB. What I want to know is what he saw in her. Honestly I think the fact that she is such a bitch is precisely why she has gone the distance. She is probably the only one that has ever been able to handle him, probably because she was not as madly in love with him in the beginning as the others. I don't know her and she may love him truly madly deeply and good for her if she does. But like someone else on here said, to me, she should be the 6th wife on Housewives of the OC!

Great question....not to mention if it indeed got FM dropped from WB - why in the heck would Stevie be thanking him especially for that?? And, wouldn't she be super pissed at LB for causing it? I can't see him playing on TISL if that happened...

Picture of "Kristen" on the cover of the DVD side by side of a screen shot from LB's Behind the Music special.

Wait a minute, isn't she 20/21 years younger? I mean, not that it makes that big of a difference to shave a off a couple of years, but for Lindsey's sake let's be accurate. I mean, he's no spring chicken, but honestly...

I think he probably thought she was beautiful because she really had such an angelic look to her when she was younger, and that coupled with her BLONDE hair probably made him fall hard.

She could be a bitch. I think he may like that quality in a woman, sorry. I think every woman he's been with has the bitch side in her, and that goes for La Madam as well...but Lindsey's probably the bitchiest of them all. I'm sure Kristen's bitchiness + LB's bitchiness combined must equate to one, if not all, of their darling little kid's becoming a MONSTER bitch when they grow up. My stakes are on Stella. She looks like she throws tantrums to rival the old man.

But I still love them...Lindsey, that is, and Stevie a little as well. Kristen is cute and ambitious, but I keep my affection for her at a respectful distance. She's hot and cold.

The Elle article didn't elaborate, but along with saying she was bossing the 3 dogs around, it also said she was wearing a warm holiday dress, despite the heat. If I had to guess, I don't think Kristen put her in that, since everyone else was dressed casually. I bet Miss Stella insisted on wearing that herself. Michele

Even if he was just a session player with a lot less income, I could see LB having quite an appeal to a woman in her thirties (I believe Kristen just turned 39). He's not dumb. He's not gross. He's got an interesting personality. He can be pretty charming when he wants to be. I think of the age difference here like I do in the Michael Douglas, Catherine Zeta Jones marriage. Given the people involved, it doesn't seem to be a factor.

If Lindsey was an older 59 year old, it would be different. I don't know anything about her, but if she was someone known to have the problems that, say, Tatum O'Neal still does, then I'd say she was an extremely young 39 and he was much too old for her. But, as it is, the age thing doesn't particularly strike me. She may be a gold digger, but I wouldn't assume that the only reason she wants him is his money, as if that's all he has to offer.

Michele

He's a friend/colleague of a friend/colleague. The source is impeccable. I briefly met him (Gary) in Fall '02, but we didn't talk about anything of substance.

I'd put most of the responsibility (blame) on David Kahne. Simply put, he had no idea what to do with Fleetwood Mac, Lindsey Buckingham, or even Stevie Nicks (as evidenced by how he handled TISL. but, that's for a whole other thread)- and was mortified at the thought of releasing GOS (as it stood in 1998) as-is. I think a lot of it had to do with the then-recent merger between AOL-Time Warner, and Kahne (commercial hitmaker/producer extraordinaire) entirely focused on the bottom line. Kahne was merely the interim acting President, so he logically had a vested interest in keeping (perceived) vanity projects by legacy/catalogue artists in line (Stevie applies here too).

Keep in mind, Kahne and Briggs are the two dunderheaded idiots who blundered the whole Wilco/Yankee Hotel Foxtrot fiasco (which went on at the exact same time as the drawn out GOS negotiations, not too coincidentally). Briggs famously offered his mea culpa in numerous print interviews (and the Greg Kot authored Wilco book, which he's heavily featured in, if anyone's interested), but he was complicit.

Hell, even when they gave Lindsey the green light to release GOS in early summer of '01 strategically on the heels of TISL (after he wrote the commercial "Peacekeeper" as a new lead single), they wanted Lindsey to make the concession of having Mick be prominently involved in the promotional aspect. They even went as far as having a Fall '01 tour all lined up- 1500-2000 seat venues for "An evening with Lindsey & Mick"- and Lindsey ultimately bailed, acknowledging the inevitable FM activity in '02, making the tour/album redundant.

That aside- did Briggs intentionally try to sabotage the release of GOS? I tend to doubt it. But there was no love lost between the two. Briggs worked VERY closely with Lindsey in the mid 90's. I'm sure if you're trying to get an album out, and you just "stole" the wife of your label's VP of Artist Development/Promotion, you're bound to get some pushback from the label on some level. Reprise was already wary of a solo album of Lindsey's, and they weren't going to make it easy for him even in the best case scenario.

From everything I've heard, Briggs is a great guy- one of the good guys in the music industry (he's still around). If you want to blame anyone, blame the asshat Kahne.

WHOAAA Luke, u got plenty of amazing information. And after reading this, I only can repeat: tell me lies, Kristen Messner.

All the photography tale is bull****. Lindsey, who works with briggs, doesn't know anything about a wife named Kristen, what could be possible, but improbable. Which is almost impossible is that Kristen didn't know anything about "a guy" (as she says) called Lindsey Buckingham. If your boyfriend or husband works for LB, FM, Bruce Springsteen or even if it is Miley Cyrus, come on, you know, even if he's very used to work with famous people.

Going back to the matter of age...I don't think it has nothing to do. Lindsey is a very very hot man, extremely atractive, charming...I would have done the same. Maybe not marrying him or coming with a surprise as her pregnancy (which really drove LB mad at the beginning and inspired "thrown down I believe) but come on, giving it a try, yes (though personaly would have been a great disaster since I am very bossy, not that much with others, but with myself and I always do what I please).
What Michele posted, Stevie in BTM...is just another confirmation of my thesis.
Please, FOX, NBC, CBS, etc...we want the Stevie Nicks show!!! she doesn't talk, she throws daggers!
