I loved this song when it was brand new. The "boyfriend" in the video is a major hottie. You could tell he's a typical str8 jerk, jealous of his girlfriend's success.

It's such a dark song with a powerful message. Very haunting imo.

Viv just alerted me to this thread - LOVE it! This really is a brillianltly dark song. I think my favourite Til Tuesday song is probably J for Jules though - from their 3rd album Everything's Different Now.
What do people think of Aimee Mann's solo career? I think my favourite albums from her are Lost In Space and Bachelor No. 2, but none of her albums are bad. She a fantastic lyricist. Oh, then there's The Forgotten Arm - see it's impossible to choose!

I'm a major Aimee Mann fan too and to be honest, she's all I've been listening to for the last few months. Her most recent album, "****ing Smilers", is brilliant the whole way through - nothing warrants skipping, not even the bonus tracks.
I was a 'Til Tuesday fan back in the day and I agree that "J For Jules" is superb, but you can't go wrong with the "Everything's Different Now" album - it's full to the brim with great songs. I particularly like "Why Must I", "Long Gone (Buddy)" and "The Other End Of The Telescope" - all gorgeous. Aimee Mann is a fine example of an artist who has truly developed and evolved over the years, generally surpassing her previous work with each new project. To the casual listener, it may seem as though she's stuck in the same groove, possibly due to her vocal limitations, but each of her solo albums is quite distinct from the others. She must be one of the most underrated songwriters of our time. I won't bother listing my favourite tracks from her solo career because there are way too many - she's that good. Plus, she's one of these artists whose b-sides are consistently wonderful - she's an absolute marvel! |
