Default Tusk Tour Video on VHS: Technical Question

I recently bought a copy of the Tusk Tour Documentary on VHS, but when I play it I get a vertical roll on the screen. Has anyone ever had this problem and know how to fix it?

It seems to have something to do with the copy protection on the tape, and a note on the back of the case says "If your TV picture rolls when a cassette encoded with 'stop copy' is played, simply adjust the vertical hold control on your TV until the picture is stable." Modern TVs no longer have this vertical hold control, so is there another way to fix this?

It's very frustrating...

It was probably stupid of me to buy this video on VHS in the first place. Does anyone know where to download this video or how to purchase a DVD of it?

Yeah unless you have a REALLY old school tube TV, that vertical hold knob is long gone.

I owned the Tusk Tour VHS at one time... but not since HD TV's have come out so I've never heard of this problem before. Are you connected to the TV via coax or the video line output (the yellow RCA jack)??

I'm connected via the video output, but I'm positive that the problem is this tape, since all my other VHS tapes play fine and considering the warning on the back of the tape.

Weird.

Yeah when I owned the VHS, I never had that problem (this was probably about 1999-2000). Try playing it on another TV set and see if you get the same thing.

You said a COPY, so do you mean an original VHS or
a "copy" of the original?

The original VHS has an older version of Macrovision (copy protection)
which is hard to crack. But if you have an original VHS you should have
no problem playing it back if your VHS is hooked directly to the TV.

Now if you have a recorded "copy" of the VHS, then that problem is
on the tape and you can't do anything about it.

Trust me I know.

yeah I just saw that too... I was assuming by "I bought a copy" that it was an original VHS with the original box..?

If it's the original VHS it might be just a sign of it's age. If it's a COPY of the original then it could be the way it was recorded. When I copied the HBO Stevie concert to DVD, the re-issue (the pink box) version wouldn't let me do it. But when I copied the original (black drawer style box) it recorded with no problem.

Yes, it is the original VHS tape, but I did get it to play on another TV. Thanks for the help, though.

It was worth the trouble, now that I was finally able to watch the tape. I never saw the whole thing before, only bits and pieces.

Some highlights were the live version of "Sara," the "Angel" live/studio sequence, and, best of all, Lindsey eating potato chips (he really looked long and hard into the bag before picking one out).

Yeah, that kind of thing is why it took us 10 years to get one solo album.

The chip scene is my favorite!! I love it so much my friend made a ringtone for me of him going, "you know, you lose track of time in here..." Makes me crack up everytime.
