Ex-girlfriend ran the show when Fleetwood Mac hit Oslo

Øyvind Rønningoro@dagbladet.no October 20, 2013

CONCERT: British-American Fleetwood Mac is like a group that has come and gone throughout the life of many of us. And - few have undergone major changes musically, from blues band with Peter Green on guitar in 1968, through songs like "Albatross" and soft pop in the early '70s to softrock, or "adult pop" as it is also known, a few years later.

Some songs we've done, but the band has strictly speaking only released three really good albums, rebirth "Fleetwood Mac" (1975), the monster success of "Rumours" (1977) and more complex "Tusk" (1979).

Blessed mix

It was from these the bulk of the songs were collected in Oslo Spektrum tonight - during a concert that was a mix of musical virtues, supreme guitar playing, somewhat tedious storytelling in Stevie Nicks' direction and further proof that the old wounds heal.

If the price is good enough, one might add.

Hand in hand

For - for the first round with additional numbers coming Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham in hand in hand, after her earlier in the evening has given his ex-girlfriend a long hug.

She left him in the 70s in favor of drummer Mick Fleetwood, who sits on the elevated - and lit - located right on the scene and witnesses as a king.

Lindsey

But - King of Fleetwood Mac's not Mick, despite the fact that he gets butt with a long drum solo at the end (though some have allowed it, it's Mick Fleetwood).

No, it is Buckingham who is the engine of the band.

He takes a lot of space - and he gets it. His virtuoso guitar playing and rough is alone worth the ticket price, even if it is stiff enough when old rock heroes to secure pension.

He is the one who has energy, he has the best voice and he is enjoying every moment.

Thursday's concert with American John Mayer same place was a guitar fest, but Buckingham runs him a high time.

Hippie Girl Stevie

Stevie Nicks is still hippie girl, while bassist John McVie adhere becoming in the background. Two choirs, one keyboardist and a second guitarist complement the current issue of the band. Christine McVie has been out for years, but actually turned up in London last month.

I actually do not think that many people thought so much that she was not in Oslo tonight.

The very first single this reviewer bought was Fleetwood Mac's "Oh Well" in 1969. I was 12. The musical stage when his Notodden Blues Festival was visited by The Mick Fleetwood Blues Band in 2008.

UNIONS Drama

It therefore took some years before the crew came together to create one of the best-selling album, "Rumours" - in 1977.

The album came in the middle of a marital drama internally, which also included John and Christine McVie.

But that violations album "Rumours" has sold more than 45 million copies, and thus are among the best-selling, due to the quality - and songs like "Dreams" "Go Your Own Way" and "Do not Stop".

They could certainly played the entire album - but could so far dropped a jampreget and too long "Gold Dust Woman".

"Without You"

Ancient "Without You" is derived from the time Buckingham / Nicks was a duo - before Mick Fleetwood called and wanted them in his band.

The song is this year released the EP "Extended Play". That it does not quite hit, may also be due to the fact that Nick spent very much time to tell the story of it.

Euphony

But beyond this? A concert full of harmony, in a spectrum that can offer surprisingly good sound for a good night - and wonderful songs like "Rhiannon," "Landslide," "Never Going Back Again" (here we are talking violations song, a heartfelt version) and "Gypsy."

And - Buckinghams intense "Big Love" solo, is the kind of moments you hope to get the gig.

Fleetwood Mac concludes recipe in terms of "Say Goodbye" - after two hours and 40 minutes on stage. It is not necessarily a point to keep on as long as possible, but this is never boring.

It is a good sign.

In everlasting musical therapy

Even with some obvious mistakes, turned Fleetwood Mac.

However, a good deal darker than many probably thought.

"Been down one time, been down two times, been down three times, I'm never going back." Ahh. A score of intense songs about love, relationships, arguments, drugs, betrayal, breakup, hope, faith and fervent despair. Could it be wrong? Of course, the legendary edition of Fleetwood Mac delivered. After each.

It was clearly a musical event of the rare that Fleetwood Mac finally came to Norway for real visits and tickets with prices up to 1300 million swine animal disappeared instantly by sales start. Someone with historical accuracy uttered that this is not the "real" Fleetwood Mac, what once was a psychedelic blues band with Peter Green on guitar back in the 1960s, while a few swear by the band between the period of the early 70s.

But Fleetwood Mac most people know and love is after all the third edition, the more pop-oriented band that was collected when the duo Buckingham Nicks joined in 1974 as one of several classic albums behind one of music history's best-selling, Rumours . Over 40 million sold, impressive enough. Ok, Christine McVie is no longer with, without weakening impression.

For it was often a pure pleasure to see and hear the drummer Mick Fleetwood, bassist John McVie, singer Stevie Nicks and guitarist Lindsey Buckingham and singer together on stage in Norway for the first time. It took time to get going, superb songs like "Dreams" and "Rhiannon" disappeared into a porridge lack of empathy and voice of the main character Stevie Nicks, some songs were too tame, and at times one most "Buckingham shows» . That said, for an incredibly formidable guitarist and seduces guy is.

But eventually, after a dark round with "Tusk" and "Sisters of the Moon", followed by a strong "Sara" and a wonderful lie down version of "Never going back again", it loosened. The relationship between the former girlfriends Nicks and Buckingham Today most of the commercial stage, it was not easy to see in the song. Or in any of the others. In fact, one could feel an everlasting musical therapy unfold.

Like I said in the introduction here, this was a twenty songs about love relationships that break down in bickering, accusations, infidelity and more, often in public. Lindsey Buckingham "You can go your own way," which closed the main set after two hours, still no call for Nicks to travel out and discover the world, to say the least.

"I let myself always impressed by people who have the difficult and advanced to sound simple," wrote singer Marit Larsen about Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks especially in Dagbladet earlier this week. The sentence will serve as a summary. For behind both pop and more blues rock-oriented tunes by listening to the plates may sound simple into their sound, there is much darkness. Lyrically, of course, but also musically.

This concert version of Fleetwood Mac was also a darker part in the performance than many probably thought they would be, yours truly included. It's been thirty-five years after that everything was as bad for the band, with star success and marital trouble in blissful union, without having subdued the importance of their music.

Fleetwood Mac's hitmaskin is formidable. But the pace is a little uneven.

Fleetwood Mac Oslo Spektrum
crowd: Approx. 7000

Half British and half American Fleetwood Mac, one of rock evighetssagaer, is not the band for spontaneous whim and urokråkete improvisation. show coming to Oslo with a strict narrative, as it never mess with. The dramaturgy is the current debt pretty funny. It includes long, messed-speak - Stevie Nicks many minutes long "rap" ahead of "Without You", and the educational offerings - Lindsey Buckingham accordingly before "Big Love." They present still the world's most bizarre drum solo, the world's tallest garden gnome . Mick Fleetwoods guttural gurgling - "are you with me?" - Under this, in an English that sounds like African is a mad delight. The first half of the concert is the most cash. In the second illustrates among other things, the "Gold Dust Woman", why they are known as a "Jamband." Nicks evokes the warmest feelings. But it is Buckinghamn that keeps the show going. He has an energy that is both boyish and neurotic, and looks like a "no nonsense" literature professor. He is one of the guitar heroes who rarely get enough kudos for their heroic deeds, and is absolutely furious on both acoustic and electric guitar. Efforts at his former in "Big Love" is a unique blend of flamenco and country picking. His playing on electric - a small red guitar that looks like a toy - is enormously resilient. He does not play with a pick, but somehow both snapping and picking berries between guitar strings, while damper thumb. There is something both see and hear.

He inspired obviously as a handful of spectators park themselves standing in front of the stage. Young people (Mac has long been highly regarded in the music nerd environments). He jumps and tubs bit extra and posing willingly for iPhone photographers.

Nicks - obviously in flowing taffeta and tulle - singing at times acidic, and can not quite lift the demanding ballads. But she said that among friends. Rock Edith Piaf, with a trembling, mournful vibrato. highlights are several. First a potent "Tusk", a strange encounter between jungle rhythms and cheerleader janissary. Intimate, albeit rusty editions of two of Nicks' countless songs about sisters, "Sister Of The Moon" and "Sara." Top hat her in "Go Your Own Way", Buckinghams glowing guitar solo in "I'm So Afraid." concert is marked by tight isenescettelse. The way the ex-couple Buckingham and Nicks hold hands when they walk on stage. The way Nick turns the microphone stand and watched Buckigham in "Silver Springs" - a song written about him (and possibly the best ever single B-side). The two are not reluctant to fertilize the impression we have of Fleetwood Mac as rock's premier romantic soap opera. Also: The way evighetshippien Nicks holds a little motivational speech - not least to himself, it seems that - even after the music is over. She gets away with it. Everyone here loves her. Helmax, Mac!

CONCERT: Vital reunion with a time most popular and finest pop bands - Fleetwood Mac.

It is an event that one of the all-time most popular pop bands are reunited on tour, and it's even greater that they included Norway on the tour list.

It was really expectation in the air as the lights were off in Oslo Spectrum and the members took their seats on stage.

The only original members Mick Fleetwood and John McVie, the two that the band name, took their places behind the bass and percussion, with beards and caps as two northern English pubveteraner.

Foremost on the stage stood

California-pair Lindsay Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. She with as many fluttering around in her skirt as before, but she's more relaxed posture than in the glory days. She was perhaps not quite at the height vocal all the time, but in certain moments, she was brilliant.

He was equally tanned and energetic as ever. He was well on stage on all 23 tracks. He's a better guitarist than many think, but maybe not quite as good as he thinks himself. They stood at a safe distance from each other center stage, but they approached each other as the concert progressed. The old sweethearts ended the gorgeous harmony song "Sara" with a well-orchestrated, but still touching hug. Two backing singers and three musicians filled out the sound.

Only one item was missing, Christine McVie, perhaps the best songwriter of them all - who joined the band, but visited some concerts on tour.

It would be icing on the cake with her on stage. But the quartet surprised with hundred percent dedication, lots of energy. They had some cool lighting effects, but otherwise the show and effects stripped down. There was talk of taking the starting point in a golden song catalog and conveying songs with credibility and passion.

"Second Hand News" set the tone, and then came the old favorites, new songs and more hidden ancient beads in perfect harmony, a spirited version of the new "Sad Angel" was an early highlight. A handful of tracks from "Tusk" was outstanding, not least Nicks was in magnificent kind of "Sisters Of The Moon". A nice acoustic department brought highlights as "Landslide" and "Never Going Back Again." Then of course the big hitters with "Go Your Own Way" and "Do not Stop" in the header at the far end.

They have enough hits to take off. The album "Rumours" sold 40 million alone. Their luxurious well-produced California-pop came into discredit in the late 70s. With its two dominant couple were the hippies answers to Abba, the two couples' love conflicts could be read out of the text, while a hair-raising lifestyle could be read out of the gossip magazines. But in the midst of this had the talent and love for music intact. This proves the music and the song durability.

What proves that Fleetwood Mac has something also 35-40 years after the crew's heyday, was that it was not the greatest hitter that worked best and got the best response to the concert Sunday night.

Big, big love

A full Oslo Spektrum took Fleetwood Mac lost friends who finally recovered again. It was time that we got to see these guys in town.

"The Mac is back" cried Mick Fleetwood at the end of a nearly three-hour triumph of Fleetwood Mac. To begin with, it's a historic atmosphere of the event. We notice that there is something more in the air than when Bob Dylan stood on the same stage two weeks ago. Dylan is here again and again, while the composition of Fleetwood Mac has never been to Norway before. Now the Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham finally right there, in front of Mick Fleetwood and John McVie, and get started with "Second Hand News", the best song from the hit album "Rumours". A 36 year old song, a group with members buoyant ii 60-70 years of age, but still young and challenging in its captivating splendor.

The group challenged his audience not to begin with. The first three songs were from "Rumours". In "Second Hand News" turned the temperature up another notch with "The Chain", which shows that Fleetwood on drums and McVie on bass is not insignificant part of the machinery. Smell Beautiful "Dreams" and "Rihannon" (from the "white" album that came before the "Rumours") continued to ride around in the beloved.

Lindsey Buckingham took the microphone to tell that they like to have some new songs on tour, and they played "Sad Angel", which is as resilient as many of the old songs. And then he held the first of tonight's many speeches, to tell about the music industry's penchant to repeat old successes. And about his own skepticism to be a part of this game is for all who aspire to be artists. Old friends realize that this leads into a section of the album "Tusk", which by many was considered a bit "difficult" letdown compared to "Rumours". The reception of the songs yesterday showed that the time has healed this wound so it holds. Especially the "Tusk" was ecstatic response, which lifted the roof.

Buckingham and Nicks were a proper couple again, and manages to make it look like they still enjoy being on stage, far beyond the commercial aspects of their business. The songs of Fleetwood Mac comes out of the turbulent relationship between the members of which we do not need to know anything about being in a concert. Although Buckingham and Nicks were legally far apart on stage, until they gave each other a good hug after Nicks sang "Sara." Lindsey Buckingham continued good fortune with a powerful performance of their "Big Love," as well as alone. Stevie Nicks to perform "Landslide" in all its glory to follow the same style.

Nicks told sensitively on the background of Buckingham / Nicks before "Without You", one of the "new" songs that took us back to their inception, as it was left on the first tape they recorded. Yesterday this song even a little highlight. The story, too, since it leads to how the two were invited into Fleetwood Mac. And Mick Fleetwood himself emerged from his drum of industrial scale to turn on a small set that looks like paint pail in comparison. Oh, how sweet it was.

The compact pop songs got a break in the "Gold Dust Woman", where the band almost tripped out in 60-tallspsykedelia, while Stevie Nicks danced around the stage as the hippie she has been since his youth. Afterwards Buckingham also allowed to skeie out so held, and then some, in "I'm So Afraid." It was a bit painstaking, but people loved the hard guitar work, especially the elect who had been allowed to hang by the edge of the stage throughout the evening. He recovered in "Go Your Own Way," which sounded absolutely glorious at the end. Extra The numbers began with "World Turning," which Buckingham and Nicks came hand in hand back on stage. Now it lacked just that they kissed each other! So they went off stage again, and Mick Fleetwood did show everything he can. Usually we are the drum solos, but this evening it got going.

Christine McVie was an important third element in the re-creation of Fleetwood Mac as one of the world's greatest band. When her songs are missing, we do not quite feeling of being part of the great pop history. Her "Do not Stop" still tend to end their concerts, but now performed it with a synth accompaniment that is completely different from the sound of the rest of the concert. The sound should not pushover when it comes to Fleetwood Mac. The songs from their heyday was also a production technical triumph. The springy sound on "Rumour" is unmatched. In concert sound is not quite as perfect, but it is higher, and the voltage is kept alive.

So is it even an encore, and the very end tells Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham on how it is getting older and find that dramas like the lighthouse up their songs are gone. Instead, they reflect on the time that has passed, and sing "Say Goodbye" so seductive fervently to each other. And it would have been completely finish, if not Stevie Nicks had held another long speech about how her dreams had been real, and that it is we who have kept them alive all these years. Totally over the top. It is only in quite unusual great concert.
