If we're going to say that "Stephanie" and "Eyes of the World" are so similar, we definitely must acknowledge the similarities between "Eyes of the World" and "Bang the Drum"! Then obviously there is the early demo where Stevie sings parts of "Enchanted", so it's possible SHE used some of the song for another song and I also read somewhere that in that original version, the drum beat was going to be used for "Bwana", but Lindsey decided to use it for "Eyes" instead. It's a popular tune!

As far as others go, I think there are at least four songs on SYW alone that have riffs from other recognizable tunes. Here is a thread from long ago regarding that: http://ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/showthread.php?t=9596

Just for kicks I did a sort of mashup of Enchanted and Eyes of the World, just to see how it would turn out. Here it is if you guys want to hear it. It could be better but it's fun for a curiosity. Here it is if you guys would like to hear it.

I LOVE THAT! It's a nice little ditty.

Me, and this here bottle of beer, find your tune very pleasant... And I plan to download it again tomorrow for some quality office listening.

How the hell did you do that? And do you have any more of those?

In all seriousness, I'd be interested in hearing others.

Thanks for putting it out there.

PM me any time with more experiments, should you get the creative spark again.

Betsy,

I raise my beer in toast. Your post just made my night. Thank you. I'm glad you like it. I haven't really done any other mashups but I've done a few remixes. I'll pm you a few and see if you like 'em.

I'm very impressed by this mash-up, too. The only thing I miss is lindsey's ending solo, which is the BOMB. Very cool that you left the enchanted solo in the middle intact. very creative.

which software did you use?

I cant think of anything off the top of my head, other than what i listed above. I'd say 'Under the Skin' was the first time I felt like he did something moderately different than previous work.
As I'd posted before...

Well, there's a few similarities betwen Tango... & ...Cradle tunes, besides the major pair already mentioned:

"You & I, Part II" / "Soul Drifter"

"Family Man" / "Surrender The Rain" (STR is a slowed down version of FM)

"Caroline" / "This Is The Time"

And, you can add "Tango In The Night" to the "I'm So Afraid/Frozen Love/Murrow" cloned solo.

And, kudos to bucklind17 for recognizing the "Stephanie/Eyes Of The World" riff during "Bang The Drum". That one isn't as obvious and not too many people catch that one.

And, the obvious lyrical pilfering between "I Know I'm Not Wrong" & "Not That Funny" as well as "You Do Or You Don't" & "Bleed To Love Her".

But, then, it's not just Buckingham...listen to Pete Townshend's early work with The Who...there's a ton of themes & lyrics he used on individual songs that reappear as major themes (and slightly altered lyrics) in Tommy & Quadrophenia, too.

As I recall, Lindsey mentioned that stealing from himself during the soundstage taping in 2003. He did (almost every) song twice during that taping. Some witnesses mentioned that he said that after the first performance of Murrow that night, just after he finished the solo. I don't know which one ended up on the DVD.

Thank you guys for the kind words. I used a program called ACID by Sonic Foundry. I've been using the same program for many years and recently upgraded my computer. So I'm looking forward to trying the new Acid out, which is supposed to be worlds better than the old version I was using. So once I get the hand of it I'll be doing a lot more stuff with it.

I really wanted to use Lindsey's ending solo in my mashup but he starts playing a little faster and it wouldn't synch up to the end of Enchanted. but yeah, the idea did occur to me.

yeah, I already thought the pace of the solo would be distracting. Cool result anyway!

Upon a second and third listen, I thought it was cool how Stevie's singing...

"thought you saw something, in my eye" and in the background these dudes are going...."eyes" (pause) "eyes" (pause) "eyes" and some whoa, whoa, whoa's....

That was very clever.

Send it to a radio station and be famous! (Acutally some dude wayback when....did that to Barbara Streisand and Neil Diamond when they both sang You don't Bring Me Flowers.) Then Babs and Neil get the idea to do it themselves...and the rest is comfortably buried back in the 1980's....

I don't see why the riff isn't as obvious in Bang the Drum. It sounds pretty front and center in the mix.

The three songs are different enough... it doesn't bother me that the line is recycled.

Same here. I was just joking a bit with the Stephanie thing.

I think Eyes Of The World is an interesting combination of three songs: the Stephanie riff, a modified '50s boogie and Pachelbel's Canon. A classic Lindsey mash-up, in other words!

Bingo. I love them all, but Eyes is my definite favorite.
