You think?

The behaviors of some fans are so interesting to observe. As if Christine could possibly threaten Stevie's career or limelight. Yet, the insecurities of some of the fans is staggering. But that's what makes the ledge fun sometimes.

I DID NOT bring up anyone other than Christine. You did. Glad you feel the truth to be threatening to someone else. Who is dead to me, btw!

Another band member postponing a solo project for this tour is nowhere near as important to the general public as Christine rejoining the band after a decade and a half of retirement.

I detect a bit of jealousy among the Stevie diehards that Christine is doing something for this band that Stevie couldn't do.

I'm not jealous about anything. Unlike some, I am championing the whole band. I agree that Chris's return is the big news for this tour because now the band is complete.

You say Chris is doing something Stevie couldn't do, while I'm asserting the 5 fireflies are doing something no subset of 4 could do.

We're probably arguing way too much over something that is most likely a matter of semantics.

It isn't the truth the Chris IS Fleetwood Mac, just as it's not true that Stevie is. They're part of a band, and they both bring something to it.

The acts that aren't touring at the same time, that beat out FM before. Like the Rolling Stones.

yes, it's been very interesting to watch it unfold in this thread!

if you are honest, you'd say unlike most here, not some. rare people on this board are really championing the whole band. and no matter what people claim and whether they admit it to themselves or others, many posts speak pretty clearly on where certain people's preferences lay:
  • most people here would be just as happy or not happpier if it would be only SN solo from now on.
  • many people here would love nothing better than just BN, or if it has to be BN backed by FM; these people have been griping about CM's return for the last year.
  • and then there are minority of people who'd love nothing better than LB solo. and then people who love any version of the band than has CM in it - whether FM 5, or Buckingham/McVie, or BM FM. and maybe people who'd prefer CM solo? etc etc.

No, I'm saying that, Christine doesn't return, this influx of interest and huge prices doesn't happen.

FM's prices are twice as high as last year's cause Stones are not touring in the US this year?

(btw they are touring this year, in AUS etc.)

The high prices are due to the humidity in Arkansas and don't have anything to do with Christine McVie.

I think we're talking about different things. You said they are number 1 because of Christine - I said they always do well because they are Fleetwood Mac. You are talking about ticket prices, I am talking about total gross tour revenues. I was wrong - they are not always top 10.

Here they are for 2003, 2009, 2013

2003

Rank $ in Millions Avg. price # of shows
1 $115.90 Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band $71.36 30/47
2 80.5 Celine Dion 135.81 1/145
3 69.3 Eagles 107.57 47/55
4 69 Fleetwood Mac 83.37 66/71
5 68.2 Cher 65.91 98/102
6 64.5 Simon & Garfunkel 136.9 28/39
7 64 Aerosmith/KISS 76.08 56/58
8 60.5 Dixie Chicks 56 56/65
9 50.9 Billy Joel/Elton John 109.24 23/27
10 48.8 “Summer Sanitarium Tour”/Metallica 70.32 19/19

EDIT: according to Pollstar, FM ranked 9th in 2009:

Rank Total Gross* Artist
1 123.0 U2
2 94.5 Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band
3 88.0 Elton John / Billy Joel
4 82.5 Britney Spears
5 77.9 AC/DC
6 71.1 Kenny Chesney
7 69.8 Jonas Brothers
8 56.9 Dave Matthews Band
9 54.5 Fleetwood Mac
10 53.4 Metallica

IN 2013:
2013′s Top Grossing Tours:
1. Bon Jovi ($205,158,370)
2. Michael Jackson The Immortal World Tour by Cirque Du Soleil ($157,299,100)
3. Pink ($147,947,543)
4. Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band ($147,608,938)
5. Rihanna ($137,982,530)
6. The Rolling Stones ($126,182,391)
7. Taylor Swift ($115,379,331)
8. Beyonce ($104,358,899)
9. Depeche Mode ($99,972,733)
10. Kenny Chesney ($90,932,957)
11. Roger Waters ($81,305,650)
12. One Direction ($78,311,383)
13. Justin Bieber ($77,423,264)
14. Madonna ($76,752,277)
15. Jay Z & Justin Timberlake ($69,753,905)
16. Paul McCartney ($69,584,403)
17. Fleetwood Mac ($61,899,473)

Ultimately, I do not expect them to land top 10 this year in gross tour revenue, because they started late.

Wow they came in as low as 17th last year. Makes sense from what I've been told. The longer they toured without Chris, the farther they fell.

And, the longer without new material - not counting that EP, which wasn't even really formally released.

Here they are for 2003, 2009, 2013

2003

Rank $ in Millions / Avg. price / # of shows

4 69 Fleetwood Mac 83.37 66/71

In 2009, they only placed 13th/14th (depending on source) but there were too many heavy hitters in front of them - U2, Madonna, Coldplay, Britney Spears, Elton John - many of whom also played more than FMs 59 shows.

IN 2013:
2013′s Top Grossing Tours:

17. Fleetwood Mac ($61,899,473)
thanks for finding and sharing the stats. what i'm talking about is all of it:
  1. average price per show (2x as much as last year if you look at just the face floor ticket prices)
  2. how many sold out shows they had
  3. average price of tickets sold on secondary market
  4. average gross per show
you seem to be stuck on their placement relative to other touring bands, and as you say, that is highly dependent on who else is touring that specific year.

so in 2003, report you quote has them as doing more shows than anybody other then Dion, making $69 M for reported shows (66 dates), with average ticket price $83.37.

in 2013, report you quote has them making $62 M, we know average ticket price was below $100, and they had just a few sold out shows.

below is this year's pollstar so far - their average price is $132.10 (and sure, higher than anybody on that list, and higher than their ticket prices from 2003, 2009 and 2013 which all seem to hover around $80), they had maybe even 90% of sold out shows so far, and they are making average $2.4 M per show which at just 40 dates so far would be about $80 M already and they have at least 40 more dates booked.
