Mention of Bekka Bramlett in today's Nashville Tennessean
Local voices warble for candidate Kerry
Lately, the Democrats are getting most of the Nashville music publicity, with the star-packed, every-Monday night Kerry-oke shows at Two Doors Down. In these shows, big-deal John Kerry supporters take the stage and sing karaoke versions of songs that range from glorious to woeful, but always in good fun. Tonight, folkabilly queen/Lyndon B. Johnson fan Nanci Griffith, singing-songwriting honcho Rodney Crowell, Grand Ole Opry member Pam Tillis, huge-voiced Bekka Bramlett, Small Town Saturday Night man Hal Ketchum, Ruby Lovett and James House. How will the Republicans respond to this Music City affront? Will Lee Greenwood crash the party and demand Bush campaign contributions of $20 per version of God Bless The USA? And what about the independents? Will Ross Perot show up at the nearby Christopher's Pizza with pie charts and bar graphs in hand? Will Ralph Nadar put on a special ''Rock For Ralph'' gig at the Tin Roof? Seriously, we want to know. Anyway, Griffith and her buddies will begin singing at Two Doors Down beginning at 6 p.m. Cover charge is $5, and it'll cost more than that if you dare get up and sing a karaoke version of Maybe It Was Memphis with Ms. Tillis.
