I'm listening to the 2004 reissue of Tusk with the bonus out takes disc and actually was listening to "The Ledge" which I must say sounds so, so cool and just fun on quality headphones (bops from ear to ear really fast, never heard anything like it) and realized after posting before the Detroit show I had somehow never made it back here!
Anyway, I'm on "Sara" now. Got some V Moda headphones from a holiday gold box deal on Amazon a week or two ago and while I hope to one day soon buy some super nice audiophile headphones (I'm up for recommendations in fact if anyone here has any since I listen to FM like 80% of the time). These are the best headphones I've ever owned and everything sounds so amazing that it's almost like rediscovering my favorite music. Like Stevie's voice right now, so incredible.... And Ooh Karma, I need to give a listen to that Madonna song for sure! Big fan of her work from about her first album to Ray of Light and some of Music and then eh... Wasn't happy with the direction she took going more hip hop/electronic. I'm going to assume from your remarks that I may enjoy her latest? Edited to add, darn the Madonna song was removed for copyright issues, will have to go seek it out myself. Either way, thanks for drawing my attention to it. |

Chronicle vol. I by Creedence Clearwater Revival, my own Christmas present!!
And this new song I found recently -even when it's from the last year-. It's Calvin Harris featuring HAIM. I'm not from this kind of music, but I found the CD on sale here in Argentina, and I searched for the song. It's amazing!! Danielle sings it really good. I remember last summer -here in the south of the world- I found Giorgio Moroder's remix of Forever by HAIM too...ok, it's techno/dance/house music, but Moroder is Moroder, you know... Enjoy! |

I still love Creedence and been hearing it my entire life (my dad's band covered several Fogerty creations). There are even some great tracks from the albums not on the two Chronicles collections.
I've been listening to a 1972 British folk album by Rosemary Hardman titled 'Firebird' which I'm really liking. Doesn't seem to have ever been on CD, and the album before it 'Second Season Came' seems impossible to find at any normal price. |

My most recent obsession is Matthew Sweet, a "power pop" artist/musician. I've been discovering and obtaining all his albums. Now I'm mining YouTube and other sites and discovering a vast amount of demos, outtakes, soundtracks, b-sides, etc... I've ready made three compilation CDs with 12 to 15 songs, and I'm still finding more material.
Unlike Stevie, he doesn't have a vault; but he is extremely prolific. The amount of material he has produced since he established his career in the late eighties is astounding. Though he only had one break out album in 1991 (Girlfriend), he has never stopped working. His series of cover song albums, Under the Covers, with Suzanna Hoffs (of the Bangles) are really wonderful. Suzanna is an underrated singer/songwriter, musician. She defies her age, and she looks and sounds just as good as she did in the 1980s. She has a very sweet voice, but she's an authentic, fierce rocker chick. Matthew wants to make another album this year. To obtain financing for it, he established a Kick starter account. I wish I had a nice chunk of money to contribute. He's a big Linsdey Buckingham/Fleetwood Mac fan. He and Suzanna covered Second Hand News on their 70s Under the Covers album, and Trouble on their 80s album. Based on the song selections they have chosen for those albums, they have a remarkable taste in music; one very similar to mine.

I remember hearing this tune on my little transistor radio.
Charlie Dore - Pilot on the Airwaves. Great tune.

I really miss REM. Great band.
I've been on an REM binge over the past week or so. Mostly Life's Rich Pageant and Murmur but also been playing World Leader Pretend from Green non-stop. I'm sure they'll be back one day. |
