Mine as well. Been over 7 years since my husband took his life. Hard to believe it's been that long.

Red face Thanks for the link...

those thoughts (Suicide) have been entering my head as of late, but I have been fighting 'em and trying to stay on the path going forward.

It's hard, but I am trying and thus far I am still here and as my brother says "Any day above ground is a good day".

Besides, if I 'offed' myself who would take care of my cats and especially what would happen to my music collection??? Sorry, I don't trust THE living with either so I will stay alive...unless I trip over a banana peel and break my neck (Of course I think my LIKELY death will come from either 'boredom' or being ran over by a milk truck - I am allergic to milk, thus my fear...)

I know, Maria. One of my best friends hanged himself, about 12 years ago. I was fukced up over it, for a long time. Ever since then, I'm always....thoughtful, of the last words I leave anyone with. Because I'll always wonder, if my last words to him, might have made a difference. Anytime a friend is down, I always try to leave them with a positive, supportive, "I'm here if you need anything", message.

I guess I'm lucky. The last words I said to Jason were "I love you."

No one close to me has ever committed suicide, but it's one of life's great questions, & it faces virtually all of us at least once: "Should I continue?"

I don't even like the word suicide because it is etymologically so close to some very morally ugly words: homicide, fratricide, matricide, infanticide.

Suicide has no such equivalent sense of moral turpitude! The true immorality characterizes the government that prohibits such action.

You've articulated my thoughts better than I ever could have. Thank you David!

one could deduce that because the first recorded instance of "suicide" in the english language was 1651 and both the anglican and catholic churches dictated that committing suicide would send you to hell, it makes sense that all those words would share a negative moral connotation.

This is something I dont really talk about much, but I attempted suicide about 6 years ago after the death of my great aunt to whom I was very close. All I remember is there was an incredible void in my life after she passed and one afternoon I just told myself that I didnt have the will to go on anymore and I took about 150 of these sleeping pills, I dont even remember what they were called and I layed down on my bed thinking that was it. A friend just happened to come by on accident and found me semi-concious on my bed and called 911. I remember very little for the next 24 hours except that I had to drink charcoal at the ER. The next day the doctor said if it had been another hour or so after my friend found me Id've probably died. I spent 3 weeks in the psychiatric ward after that. All I can really say is that I guess it wasnt my time to go. I owe my friend my life, literally.

People have expressed thoughts more eloquently that I can, in the above posts. David and Carrie, I enjoy reading your posts because I know you're going to educate me. Thank you.

estranged4life - Brian, the fact that you have the word LIFE in your name, tells me that no matter how rough it gets, you'll always choose life.... (good choice)

DavidMN - Look at all the life experiences you have had, since your dark episode with your soul...all the concerts and friendships you would have missed out on, had the other side won.

Suicide - The Dark Side of the Soul

Suicide - a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

When I get blue, I remember that it's sadness and not depression...and those two phrases above, remind me that "all things pass."
