This could get tricky
On any particular day, night, week, month, year, decade, all-time (you get it) post a song with lyrics that is meaningful to you (e.g. not necessarily every song you hear.) Here is the tricky part, if the song has already been posted within this thread come back another time with a different selection. Please provide a little or all lyrics included to capture the essence of the song...and maybe even a bit of you.
Let's build a massive collection If you'd like to participate, please do. On EDIT: Let's try not to insert comment posts...just the song. If you are intrigued by someone's post, send them a PM as I will bet they would like that. This may keep the thread clean during the tricky parts. If I were to insert a comment, on this edit, it would be 'Thanks Brandon for participating!' Civil War by Guns and Roses "What we've got here is failure to communicate. Some men you just can't reach... So, you get what we had here last week, which is the way he wants it! Well, he gets it! N' I don't like it any more than you men." Look at your young men fighting Look at your women crying Look at your young men dying The way they've always done before Look at the hate we're breeding Look at the fear we're feeding Look at the lives we're leading The way we've always done before My hands are tied The billions shift from side to side And the wars go on with brainwashed pride For the love of God and our human rights And all these things are swept aside By bloody hands time can't deny And are washed away by your genocide And history hides the lies of our civil wars D'you wear a black armband When they shot the man Who said "Peace could last forever" And in my first memories They shot Kennedy I went numb when I learned to see So I never fell for Vietnam We got the wall of D.C. to remind us all That you can't trust freedom When it's not in your hands When everybody's fightin' For their promised land And I don't need your civil war It feeds the rich while it buries the poor Your power hungry sellin' soldiers In a human grocery store Ain't that fresh I don't need your civil war Look at the shoes your filling Look at the blood we're spilling Look at the world we're killing The way we've always done before Look in the doubt we've wallowed Look at the leaders we've followed Look at the lies we've swallowed And I don't want to hear no more My hands are tied For all I've seen has changed my mind But still the wars go on as the years go by With no love of God or human rights 'Cause all these dreams are swept aside By bloody hands of the hypnotized Who carry the cross of homicide And history bears the scars of our civil wars "WE PRACTICE SELECTIVE ANNIHILATION OF MAYORS AND GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS FOR EXAMPLE TO CREATE A VACUUM THEN WE FILL THAT VACUUM AS POPULAR WAR ADVANCES PEACE IS CLOSER" I don't need one more war

Why It Matters
by Sara Groves Sit with me and tell me once again Of the story that's been told us Of the power that will hold us Of the beauty, of the beauty Why it matters Speak to me until I understand Why our thinking and creating Why our efforts of narrating About the beauty, of the beauty And why it matters Like the statue in the park Of this war torn town And it's protest of the darkness And the chaos all around With its beauty, how it matters How it matters Show me the love that never fails The compassion and attention Midst confusion and dissention Like small ramparts for the soul How it matters Like a single cup of water How it matters

Children of the World
The Bee Gees We are children of the world - watching every day go by Changes my life, changes your life - keeps us all anticipating We are searchers of the truth, every man's a boy deep down Gotta say it how you mean it - there ain't no easy way Like a bird in the wind, like a tree in the storm Like the breath of a child from the moment he's born To the very last day when the curtains are drawn We are children of the world - asking every question why From arrival to survival - just to make it worth the waiting We are faces in the night - watching every day go by Changes my life, changes your life - there ain't no easy way In the back of your mind there is always a mark There's a wandering solo alone in the dark You can keep it forever or tear it apart We are children of the world - watching every day go by Changing my life, changing your life - keeps us all anticipating We are children of the world - watching every day go by Like a bird in the wind, like a tree in the storm Like the breath of a child from the moment he's born Till the very last day when the curtains are drawn We are children of the world - watching every day go by Changes my life, changes your life - keeps us all anticipating We are children of the world - watching every day go by Changes my life, changes your life - keeps us all anticipating |

He Stopped Loving Her Today
George Jones He said "I'll love you till I die", she told him "You'll forget in time" As the years went slowly by, she still preyed upon his mind He kept her picture on his wall, went half-crazy now and then He still loved her through it all, hoping she'd come back again Kept some letters by his bed dated nineteen sixty-two He had underlined in red every single "I love you" I went to see him just today, oh but I didn't see no tears All dressed up to go away, first time I'd seen him smile in years He stopped loving her today They placed a wreath upon his door And soon they'll carry him away He stopped loving her today (Spoken) You know, she came to see him one last time. Aww, 'n' we all wondered if she would. And it kept runnin' through my mind "this time he's over her for good." He stopped loving her today They placed a wreath upon his door And soon they'll carry him away He stopped loving her today |

Lullaby For Myself
Barbra Streisand Self-contained and self-content No promises to keep I've got things so together That I just can't fall asleep Walked the night and drank the moon Got home at half past four And I knew that no one marked my time As I unlocked my door It's really lovely to discover That you like to be alone Not to owe your man an answer When he gets you on the phone Not to share a pair of pork chops When you crave champagne and cheese And your aim becomes to please yourself And not to aim to please Oh they sold me when they told me Two can live as cheap as one But I'm learning twice your earning Doesn't mean it's twice the fun If you spend each dime and all your time On someone else's schemes I'm not needy but I'm greedy And I live my deepest dreams Take an hour in the shower Use the water while it's hot in the tub A hand to scrub my back Is all I haven't got Self-aware with self-esteem Is selfishness a crime I take the day for quite a ride And I take my own sweet time Time to spare and time to share And grateful I would be If just one damn man Would share the need To be alone with me |

How Does A Duck Know?
Crash Test Dummies How does a duck know what direction south is? And how to tell his wife from all the other ducks? You can cut a chicken's head off and it will keep on running and twitching When everything seems planned out when everything seems nicely planned out well the human race will come and smack your face How come all my body parts so nicely fit together? All my organs doing their jobs, no help from me! A person pulls a spider's leg out To watch it keep on moving and twitching. When everything seems planned out when everything seems nicely planned out well the human race will come and smack your face Satan lives here: on grain and earth, rain and air. How come I just smoke and smoke and smoke and curse every butt I spit out? All night long I grind my teeth and I wake up when I cough You can put me in and iron lung and I will keep on breathing and twitching. When everything seems planned out when everything seems nicely planned out well the human race will come and smack your face You might be dead, but you keep your head. |

"For The Roses" by Joni Mitchell
I heard it in the wind last night It sounded like applause... Did you get a round resounding for you Way up here It seems like many dim years ago Since I heard that face to face.. Or seen you face to face Though tonight I can feel you here I get these notes On butterflies and lilac sprays From girls who just have to tell me They saw you somewhere... In some office sits a poet And he trembles as he sings And he asks some guy To circulate his soul around... On your mark red ribbon runner The caressing rev of motors Finely tuned like fancy women- In thirties evening gowns Up the charts- Off to the airport Your name's in the news Everything's first class The lights go down And it's just you up there... Getting them to feel like that... Remember the days when you used to sit And make up your tunes for love And pour your simple sorrow To the soundhole and your knee... And now you're seen On giant screens And at parties for the press And for people who have slices of you From the company They toss around your latest golden egg Speculation well who's to know If the next one in the nest Will glitter for them so... I guess I seem ungrateful With my teeth sunk in the hand That brings me things I really can't give up just yet Now I sit up here the critic! And they introduce some band But they seem so much confetti Looking at them on my TV set... Oh the power and the glory- Just when you're getting a taste for worship They start bringing out the hammers.... And the boards..... And the nails..... I heard it in the wind last night It sounded like applause Chilly now- end of summer No more shiny hot nights It was just the arbutus rustling And the bumping of the logs And the moon swept down black water- Like an empty spotlight |

Goodbye - Patty Griffin
Occured to me the other day You've been gone now a couple years well, I guess it takes while For someone to really disappear And I remember where I was When the word came about you It was a day much like today the sky was bright, and wide, and blue And I wonder where you are And if the pain ends when you die And I wonder if there was Some better way to say goodbye Today my heart is big and sore it's tryin' to push right through my skin I won't see you anymore I guess that's finally sinkin' in 'Cause you can't make somebody see By the simple words you say All their beauty from within Sometimes they just look away But I wonder where you are And if the pain ends when you die And I wonder if there was Some better way to say goodbye search

The Smiths - How Soon is Now?
I am the son And the heir Of a shyness that is criminally vulgar I am the son and heir Of nothing in particular You shut your mouth How can you say I go about things the wrong way? I am human and I need to be loved Just like everybody else does I am the son And the heir Of a shyness that is criminally vulgar I am the son and heir Oh, of nothing in particular You shut your mouth How can you say I go about things the wrong way? I am human and I need to be loved Just like everybody else does Oh ... Oh ... There’s a club, if you’d like to go You could meet somebody who really loves you So you go, and you stand on your own And you leave on your own And you go home, and you cry And you want to die When you say it’s gonna happen now Well, when exactly do you mean? See, I’ve already waited too long And all my hope is gone Oh ... Oh ... You shut your mouth How can you say I go about things the wrong way? I am human and I need to be loved Just like everybody else does |

Magic (Asadoya Yunta) - Blondie
I'm hot as a fire, burning bright I feel as empty as air There is no sense of balance In the howling wind that calls to me I can feel it everywhere, but it's invisible to me Distractions and spirit find me floating in a magnetic sea The nights are phosphorescent And the days are beautiful and bright Until whispering mist - it comes falling down on me Oh, there's fire burning Looking for the magic In the night time, all this Brings the magic back to me I'm looking for the magic in the places I remember it to be It's in the night time alleys Winding through my deepest memory And just one simple thought brings the magic back to me I'm looking for the magic in the places I remember it to be And just one simple thought brings the magic back to me

Why - Annie Lennox
How many times, do I have to try To tell you, that I'm sorry For the the things I've done? But when I start to try to tell you That's when you have to tell me Hey, this kind of trouble's Only just begun I tell myself too many times Why don't you ever learn to Keep your big mouth shut? That's why it hurts so bad, to hear the words That keep on falling from your mouth Falling from your mouth.... falling from your mouth... Tell me, why? Why? I may be mad, I may be blind I may be viciously unkind But I can still read what you're thinking And I've heard it said too many times That you'd be better off Besides, why can't you see This boat is sinking, this boat is sinking Let's go down to the water's edge And we can cast away those doubts Some things are better left unsaid But they still turn me inside out Turning inside out.... turning inside out.... Tell me, why? Why? This is the book I never read These are the words I never said This is the path I'll never tread These are the dreams I'll dream instead This is the joy that's seldom spread These are the tears, the tears we shed This is the fear, this is the dread These are the contents of my head And these are the years that we have spent And this is what they represent This is how I feel.... do you know I feel? 'Cause I don't think you know how I feel I don't think you know how I feel... |

Roll Me Away
Words and music by Bob Seger Took a look down a westbound road, Right away I made my choice Headed out to my big two-wheeler, I was tired of my own voice Took a bead on the northern plains And just rolled that power on Twelve hours out of Mackinaw City Stopped in a bar to have a brew Met a girl and we had a few drinks And I told her what I’d decided to do She looked out the window a long long moment Then she looked into my eyes She didn’t have to say a thing, I knew what she was thinkin’ Roll, roll me away, Won’t you roll me away tonight I too am lost, I feel double-crossed And I’m sick of what’s wrong and what’s right We never even said a word, We just walked out and got on that bike And we rolled And we rolled clean out of sight We rolled across the high plains Deep into the mountains Felt so good to me Finally feelin’ free Somewhere along a high road The air began to turn cold She said she missed her home I headed on alone Stood alone on a mountain top, Starin’ out at the great divide I could go east, I could go west, It was all up to me to decide Just then I saw a young hawk flyin’ And my soul began to rise And pretty soon My heart was singin’ Roll, roll me away, I’m gonna roll me away tonight Gotta keep rollin, gotta keep ridin’, Keep searchin’ till I find what’s right And as the sunset faded I spoke to the faintest first starlight And I said next time Next time We’ll get it right |
