I agree about Frankie and Johnny. Great film but there was a bit of an outcry when she got the role - especially since Kathy Bates had been playing it on Broadway. They said she wasn't plain enough for the role, which kind of makes sense, but she's still great in it.

Ahhh, I remember all of that. I'm very familiar with the stage play, Frankie & Johnny in the Claire de Lune, and there is a line in the play (removed from the film) that plainly states: we're dogs, we'll never get any better.
Something along that line. They were supposed to be ugly which is one of the things that bring them together. But the film focused more on loneliness rather than homeliness.

I've always thought that Michelle is under-rated as an actress. One Oscar nomination (Love Field) seems paltry when considering how great she has been in films like Fabulous Baker Boys, Frankie and Johnny, Married To The Mob, Cheri, I Am Sam etc...

This has however raised the tone from the brilliant shallowness of this thread!

She was also nominated (Oscar) for Dangerous Liaisons and Fabulous Baker Boys.
