Default Eva Cassidy's Songbird

The Fleetwood Mac Legacy website has 3 covers of "Songbird" available for download this week. One of them is Eva Cassidy's beautiful version. While I don't think it's quite as good as Christine's original version, I think it is excellent. You can download here. Just click on SOTW on the left side, and then right click & save target as.

I love Eva Cassidy and the way she sings Song bird. She had such a wonderful voice. Too bad she passed away. She was so underated.

That's the first time I'd heard that. Very pretty.

But not as moving as Christine's version, IMO.

Tori's version made me sad. Which means it's good.

Hard to do Christine, she's simple but very unique ya know.....

I's a beautiful cover and it was a great surprise to hear it as part of Love Actually (I have watched the movie only recently). Still i would have preferred to listen to it sung by Christine; the director in the behind the scenes explained that he decided to put Songbird in that moment of the film after having tried many other songs, but didn't tell why he opted for a cover. Oh well, at least he chose the best Joni MItchell's version of Both Sides Now for the key scene with Emma Thompson.

Yeah, that is a cool movie. The use of "Both Sides Now" is superb IMO. I really love the Judy Collins version, but the Joni Mitchell one's cool, too. I do wish they'd played Christine instead of Eva for "Songbird." It's just me. I also wish she hadn't covered Sting's "Fields of Gold" because it's untouchable to me.

Never seen the movie. Under no circumstances should anyone touch "Fields of Gold." That is my favorite song by him.

I couldn't agree more!

Alas, must the crushes on the straight girls continue?

The mere mention of that song turns me on...so I had to go start the other thread.

This is just a guess. But, I think it's possible that a Christine/Fleetwood Mac version would cost more to put in the movie than an Eva Cassidy version. Maybe that's why the director went with Eva's version instead.

I think Eva's version is beautiful, but she can't top the original with Christine and her piano.

I think Eva Cassidy's version of Fields Of Gold is far superior to the original. But then I don't like Sting.
