Thumbs up How Do Fleetwood Mac/Other Bands Split Profits for Record Sales and Such

Hey All:

Something that I am sure has been talked about in the past. When it comes to bands recording and selling music, how does Fleetwood Mac split up the profits? Since Stevie, Lindsey and Chris all wrote, the presumable earned more than Mick and John for playing, right? How would the split it up for each song? Or would they simply have a percentage split for the whole album?

Just curious!!!

Ethan

Lindsey wastes 26.6 of it on his guitars
Christine buys million dollar liquirs with 26.6 of it
and John and Mick just blow the rest!

Those were interesting reads. I'm wondering though, if 1 member in a 3 piece trio for example does the songwriting, what kind of additional cut if any the writer would get?

Everyone gets their percentage of album royalties, but songwriter make more money because of stuff like mechanical royalties (when copies of their song are printed -ie, CDs), performance rights royalties, etc.

Sometimes songwriters will choose to split those royalties they get as a songwriter with the other band members.... however, I'm relatively sure in FM's case this doesn't happen, as evidenced by comments made in the past re: Mick and John not writing.

Mick has sometimes (always?) gotten some money from handling business stuff for the band. It's possible there is also a thing where he and John own the group name and control it's use having never left it. I know there's a situation like that with Chris Squire the one member of Yes who never left it, and Roger McGuinn of The Byrds had the rights to tell an ex-member they could not advertise their group as The Byrds. So it's possible the use of the words Fleetwood Mac could mean a payment to Mick and John.

Well, I read somewhere here, that since Stevie and Lindsey were back, and Christine gone, that touring revenue is now split -
40% - Stevie
30% - Lindsey
15% - Mick
15% - John
