Song Of The Day - "You Do Or You Don't" by Lindsey Buckingham from the album "Out Of The Cradle"

OK...I'm going to infuriate lots of people with this one...Fleetwood Mac was (or IS depending on their moods) Lindsey Buckingham. Without him...there is no band. You can keep Stevie Nicks...especially today's version of ol' croakin' Stevie. With the exception of a few classics ("Rhiannon," "Landslide") she really doesn't offer much to the band in my opinion. I'm sure there are lots of witchy woman lovers out there that are preparing for my lynching now. Lindsey's "Out Of The Cradle" album from 1992 is chock full of great songs that probably could have been big Fleetwood Mac hits, especially this one. I saw him touring behind this album at Town Hall in New York City with the band shown in this video. He was amazing...and he is still amazing today...

You can read this one of two ways, either Rob Zombie thinks he knows something about homicidal maniacs or two he’s read enough psychiatry books to understand the blood hungry mind. What comes across on screen is a half-baked Oedipal fantasy wrapped in some of the most hackneyed symbolism. A white horse? A white robed woman? Really? This is what drives the mind of a madman? No, this is the crap of a Stevie Nicks video.

Now, even if Stevie Nicks makes you want to see red, perhaps even hack up a few horny teenagers you are probably going to do one of two things. Either you kill indiscriminately, leaving a trail of corpses in your wake or you have your thing, that something special, M.O., that trademark, where by you leave behind the victims like calling cards. In Halloween 2, Michael Meyers does both.

Phantom Limb - Live In Bristol Album Review
Oct 18, 2010‎

Imagine the best vocal elements of Aretha Franklin, Stevie Nicks and Alison Krauss all manifested in one phenomenal folk-tinged, soulful country-blues-meets-gospel voice; Phantom Limb's Yolanda Quartey, a voice in a million and a true shining talent of this release, is that exact manifestation.

Introducing... The Cordelier Club
October 22, 2010

But The Cordelier Club’s songs – “bittersweet, melancholic stories,” Richard describes them as – are ballads about modern love with a complexity and resonance comparable to work of songwriters like Jarvis Cocker, Stevie Nicks and Paul Simon.

Sarah Blasko, Sally Seltmann, and Holly Throsby Prep Album for 2011
October 24, 2010

In a pair of posts on her blog, Blasko discussed the group’s whirlwind, 10-day summer recording sessions, providing a single hint about the inspiration behind one of the Seltmann-penned songs: an excellent video of Stevie Nicks rehearsing vocals while getting her makeup done for a Rolling Stone photo shoot in the ’80s. I can’t wait to hear what this amazing team cooked up in the studio.

Duffy talks about Stevie and her other influences in US Magazine in an interview by Ian Drew. Here is an excerpt:

http://ghjdjfgj.131.at/exclusive-duf...end-to-us.html

US: You’ve gotten to meet so many people. What’s the greatest celebrity encounter that you’ve had?

D: Again, wholesale clothing cheap, Smokey Robinson. I’m not obsessed with him or anything, honestly, but what a presence! Stevie Nicks, too. She walks into a room, and I don’t know it’s like a sun beam. It is like a hurricane, she was like this big light force. When I met someone like Leonard Cohen, I felt like I was really close to God. You can’t explain it. I couldn’t even talk.

Swift’s lastest CD a romantic tell-all
October 25, 2010

No wonder Stevie Nicks felt enough kinship with the young star to join her for a duet at the Grammys; these are just the kind of veiled, he’s-standing-right-there-so-I-can’t-actually-say-his-name lyrics that fueled the melodious soap opera of Fleetwood Mac, which also set a few sales records.

Album review: Cowboy Junkies - Renmin Park
October 26, 2010

Stranger Here is a country-flavoured hit in waiting, undermined by the leaden lyrics of the following A Few Bags Of Grain, which sounds like Stevie Nicks at her most addled.

Undressed! for Oct. 27: Celeb Fashion Faux Pas
October 27, 2010

Lady and the Camp: Anderson Cooper communicates so much through his downcast baby blues. Among the many thoughts flickering across his embarrassed mug as he slinks alongside Lady Gaga: "Did cross-dressing elves cobble those platform shoes?"; "Why do I have Stevie Nicks and Don Henley warbling 'give to me your leather, take from me my lace' running through my head?"; "Anyone else suddenly craving a rib eye?"; "Is waist-cinching making a comeback? Corset isn't. Heh, I crack myself up"; and, "Underpants. Underpants. Underpants." Speaking of public mortification ...

Halloween is about candy, not eye candy
October 27, 2010

When you're a child, there's nothing like the feeling of dressing up as your favorite character or some strange item-whether it be Batman, Stevie Nicks, the 7-Up Spot, a bag of jelly beans or even static cling-and getting free candy from all your neighbors.

Shop till you're dropped... Moss reaches sell-by date
October 27, 2010

Anyone still keen on Moss can expect more of the same from her last range. Her clothes started out with a vintage feel, moved into a more boyish, beatnik look and have settled – some might say "stuck" – in bohemian rock groupie territory – think Stevie Nicks meets Marianne Faithful.

Anna Faris & Bill Clinton Play Grab-Ass at an Everett Karaoke Hot-Spot
October 27, 2010

All the singers could carry a tune, which is something you can't take for granted in any k-bar. This dude sang Pearl Jam's "Yellow Ledbetter" and did it in a way that wasn't completely boring. He was followed by the flirty bartender gal, Karee Jo. Her voice was Stevie Nicks "slithery" and she did "Criminal" by Fiona Apple. Her vocal runs were smooth and natural, and she was the best female performer of the night.

Ten Country Covers That Top The Pop Originals
October 27, 2010

7. Whiskeytown, "Dreams" (Fleetwood Mac):

Sometime Rocks Offer Pete Vonder Haar chimed in on Facebook that Whiskeytown once covered Black Flag's "Nervous Breakdown." That's all well and good, but Rocks Off Jr. is the real punk in the family. It did make us remember Ryan Adams' moody meditation on the weather and his possible probable mother issues with Stevie Nicks, though. It fits.

http://blogs.houstonpress.com/rocks/...that_trump.php

---

Yeah, that cover's not in any way better than the original. And frankly, the Mac version sounds about as country, if not more so, than this version. Stevie is certainly more twangy than this fellow.

Neptoon Records
October 28, 2010

Aside from running the local vampire music scene (ok, now I'll stop), Neptoon has a killer selection of records all based on owner Rob Friths personal collection. He has created the kind of store that caters to most tastes, yet still feels like you're sorting through someone's (Rob's) personal record collection. The store has a large dollar bin section if you're in the mood for any record by The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band or Stevie Nicks post Fleetwood Mac (which are both in curious abundance) as well as some rare (awesome!) but expensive (****.) vintage singles and limited edition LPs. The store also specializes in psych punk, ska and garage, and supports local bands such as The Orpheans by holding all ages in-store concerts on a regular basis.

While Portland parents are conferencing about whether to hand out organic, fair-trade chocolate bars or something more mentally enriching—like miniature Origami Kits—to trick-or-treaters this year, I am stressed about how to make a clear distinction between a Stevie Nicks costume and that of your prototypical witch.

Despite my strict childhood diet of spaghetti-os and Rumours on repeat, Stevie Nicks scared the **** out of me. I envisioned Fleetwood Mac as an ill-willed society of devil worshippers with Nicks as its sinewy leader; a growling woman clad in layers of black organza who sang songs about gypsies and witches and chains and never, ever smiled.

I had recurring nightmares in which Nicks was found strangling the hell out of The Little Mermaid (my musical idol at the time) after she sang "Rhiannon" off-key. Which almost totally happened in real life!

Anyways, now that I've finally overcome my fear of the Gold Dust Woman (after a mere 15 years and an hour-long episode of Behind The Music: Fleetwood Mac), I would like to be her for Halloween. But what if people think I'm just a boring witch who parked her broom out back? That's annoying. How does one make it obvious? Do I need a Lindsey Buckingham to beat on? A molehill of cocaine meant to be ingested rectally? Help!

A few problems … but you can’t deny Stevie …
I first got into Fleetwood Mac back in 1997 when they were on the Dance Tour. My mother was totally excited because they would be performing at the Pepsi Arena, here in Albany, NY, on Thanksgiving Eve … so of course we went. I was HOOKED from that day forward. For Christmas that year my mother got me Stevie’s greatest hits album, Timespace, and then I went from being hooked to being OBSSESSED!

In 1999 I got the Red Rocks concert and I loved it. Actually, at this point in my life, I was in the middle of losing 60 pounds, so every night for months on the stationary bike I would watch the show.

Perhaps the only problem I might have NOW with the show is that not EVERY song performed that night in 1986 are included on the disc, like “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around,” “Sara,” and “I Can’t Wait.” These probably weren’t included for obvious Stevie reasons, being, for one, that “Sara” is a very personal song to her and she’s always reluctant to perform it in front of people, not to mention that it, like “I Can’t Wait,” turned out MUCH better on recording and didn’t transfer to stage all that well. But seeing that this Rock a Little Tour was the only in which she performed “I Can’t Wait,” it would have made the disc more of a collector’s item … and thus a better concert.

A difficult time in her life……
I am a tried and true fan of Stevie Nicks. But, I must be honest, I was embarassed for her when I watched this concert video. She was nearing the end of a very dangerous drug and alcohol addiction. In fact, I have read that after this concert, she checked herself into a rehab. The setting was absolutely magical. The dove landing on her hand and not wanting to leave was symbolic and beautiful. As far as her performance, her voice never fails her, but she was screaming and sometimes singing in gibberish. I must say her first taped concert during the Bella Donna tour was superb in comparison! Apologies to other true fans like me, but I cannot lie about my opinion even though I love Stevie Nicks.

Good Video
Not the best Stevie Nicks Video I have ever seen, but far from the worst. Stevie’s etherial beauty and rich vocals come out wonderfully. In my opinion, there is too much pan and scan of things I’m not interested in, ie: anything but Stevie and the Band. Waddy on guitar, and Lori, Sharon, and Elisecia on backup vocals were marvelous. I’m sure you will hear some people whine about “she doesn’t follow the lyrics from the album” DUH! this IS live music, and besides, these are HER songs, so she can change the words to suit her. Anyway, she could sing random words from the dictionary, and I would probably enjoy hearing it.

Giving You Reasons - Saturday Morning

Apparently that makes one omniscient. Bitter? Bitter's just another word for early-morning middle age. Ask Stevie Nicks. She'll tell you. Or I'll pretend she will, which is almost the same thing, but with fewer scarves. ...
