Default Happy Birthday Stevie!

I know many on the Rumours board aren't her biggest fans right now, but I definitely believe our girl deserves some love. May 26, 1948 is a day that changed the world. Stevie is an icon, and she is one of the most important figures in rock music. I think many of us have completely fallen head over heels with her gorgeous voice and songwriting, whether in Fleetwood Mac or solo. I know she has certainly changed my life and is a huge source of inspiration to me. So Rock On Gold Dust Woman and thank you for decades of phenomenal performances and encouraging words; I love you very much!

Happy Birthday, Stevie!!

I hope you have an incredible day today. Thank you for all of the wonderful music you've written and recorded all these years, as well as all the amazing performances you've given to us throughout your life.

My life has been more meaningful because of your music (both recordings and live) and wouldn't have been the same without you in it.

After all of the ups and downs the past few years in your life, I hope you have a birthday that is filled with relaxing, spent with your friends and family, and gives you peace and joy.

With love,

Barbara

Stevie Nicks '70s Style: A Love Letter To The Queen Of Boho
To celebrate the singer's 69th birthday, one Grazia writer decodes the enduring appeal of Stevie Nicks' wardrobe...

The word ‘icon’ is so easily traded in fashion circles I fear its meaning has been dampened somewhat.

However, there is one titanium force in music, and still very much a pinnacle on designer’s mood boards, whose unique brand of boho-style in the ‘70s has truly stood the test of time. The Gypsy lady herself: Stevie Nicks.

Sienna Miller’s chunky belts + arm cuffs phase in the early noughties? Florence Welch’s covetable vintage collection? Balenciaga’s billowing dresses this season? Stevie set the standard (a simple google of ‘Stevie Nicks Fashion’ brings up around 16.5 million results and you’ll no doubt find a #FlashbackFriday screenshot of the Fleetwood Mac frontwoman lurking on many a 'gram).

But what maketh the fashion pin-up?

In the mid-late seventies, there was something so effortless; free-spirited; romantic about her sartorial statements onstage during a decade of disco, Abba’s ‘Scandi cool’ moon boots and Bowie’s spray-on leotards. And looking back through the archives, Nicks’ attire has rarely strayed from the ‘soft seventies Cali-girl’ look of that time (save for maybe a perm when the ‘80s called, and decidedly more texture and feathers post-Fleetwood).

She once declared: 'Sexy is keeping yourself mysterious. I'm really an old-fashioned girl, and I think I'm totally sexy.' Stevie’s uniform of choice? Victorian lace, bell sleeves galore and billowing dresses...There’s no doubt about it - come summer, you’re probably referencing the rocker more than you’re aware.

'Stevie wanted something real different to anything that was happening in rock 'n' roll,’ her stylist and costume designer Margi Kent told MTV. ‘She had a sense of the feeling she wanted to project and had an affinity with certain fabrics. She has a very fine sensibility and loves quality fabrics, especially silk chiffons, delicate laces and velvets.

‘I would go on the tours a lot and work with Curry Grant, the lighting director, because if I did special costumes, like for Gold Dust Woman, we wanted to build according to the vibe of the lighting.’

As Stevie Nicks turns 69 today, it seemed as good a time as any to revisit eight cult style moments from the Queen of Rock n' Roll…

Peak Sleeve

Fringe Benefits

High-Rise Jeans

Cherry Dream

The Crochet Hair Net

Top Hat

Dark Romance

The Blanket Coat

The morning show on the local radio station is playing a bunch of Stevie in honor of her birthday. Stand Back and Edge were back to back, then after a couple songs by her friends (Tom Petty and Prince), they are playing Gypsy right now.

Stevie Nicks: 24 Karat Words from the Road Part 1

To celebrate another year of Stevie Nicks our staff photographer has scoured through her photo archives and found some favorite quotes and unshared photos from the road. These photos and quotes are from the “24K Gold” tour and Fleetwood Mac’s “On With the Show” tour.

“Believe”
“If you believe in something and you believe you could do something great…Don’t ever let anybody get in your way and don’t let anybody tell you that you can’t do it because that’s a lie.

“Reach out and take it”
“We did it and you can do it too. It is all out there. You just have to reach out and take it.”

“Not a fluke”
“I was not having it. I was not going to be the worlds biggest fluke!“ – On continuing her solo career after the success of “Bella Donna”

“Exactly the same”
“When I look down it looks exactly like it did 35 years ago. My boots and the cape. Exactly the same”

“That’s why you have me”
“I’m going to chronicle it, I’m going to be a reporter, I’m going to be an archivist because in my life I have realized time passes and things just pass away and you forget stuff that you shouldn’t forget. That’s why you have people like me to write stuff about this down so it doesn’t just fade away.”

“That’s why I do this”
“The song saved my life in a lot of ways. It brought that amazing emotion out of me that as a writer I love. That’s why I do this.” – On the song “Moonlight”

“This is for me now”
“I don’t care if anybody buys my records or not. This is for me now. At my age I am writing for me and I am having a wonderful time writing songs for my own personal love of just sitting at the piano and creating something. Even if just a few of you love it, that is all I need.”

“Sometimes crazy is good”
“Sometimes crazy is good. Wild heart came out incredibly crazy and I loved it.”

“It was just a dream”
“They saw a girl who believed in herself. What I want to tell you is that it was just a dream. It was just a dream but I believed in it.”

Stevie Nicks: 24 Karat Words from the Road Part 2

“You can’t do that”
“You can’t do that. It’s a Prince song.”
“Oh no I am doing it. It’s happening right now.”
– on being told she couldn’t write “Stand Back” to Prince’s song

“My purple guardian angel”
“I feel now that he is gone he is up there worrying about me and he always will be. He is like my purple guardian angel forever.” – On Prince

“You can do anything you want”
“You’re are special and you are beautiful and you can do anything you want. And Girls don’t let anybody get in your way. Not while I’m around.”

“Dance into the night”
“That is family. That is what family does. They let people like me just dance into the night and try to bring some entertainment and some love into your life…and some fun and a little bit of wisdom of 68 years.” – on her fans and audience

Happiest of birthdays, Stevie! Not only are you the greatest woman in the history of rock (sez me), you are also an extraordinarily gifted songwriter, a member of my personal Mt. Olympus of Songwriters, alongside such talented scribes like Brian Wilson, John Lennon, Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Browne, Tom Waits and Neil Finn. You deserve all the accolades, happiness and success in the world and then some. Thank you for all those incredible songs and all those magical and unforgettable performances. Have a wonderful day!

And then tonight the same station played a triple of Edge, Stand Back, and Talk to Me to celebrate.

Happy Birthday, Stevie Nicks! Looking Back at the Best Covers of ‘Landslide’

Happy birthday, Stevie Nicks! The singer and songwriter turns 70 on May 26, 2018.

Incredibly, it has been 43 years since Nicks wrote one of Fleetwood Mac’s greatest hits, “Landslide.”

Since then, countless singers have covered the gorgeous, acoustic song about growing older and sailing the changing tides of life. A few artists’ covers of “Landslide” have even become No. 1 hits in their own right.

In honor of Nicks’ milestone birthday, we’re looking back at the best covers of “Landslide” over the years from the Dixie Chicks, Tori Amos and more.

The Dixie Chicks
The Dixie Chicks covered “Landslide” on their 2002 album Home, and the cover became a number-one single for the group.

Venice
The rock band covered “Landslide” on their 1999 album Spin Art.

Smashing Pumpkins
Nicks herself was reportedly a fan of the alt-rock band’s 1994 acoustic cover of “Landslide.”

Glee
The cast of Glee covered “Landslide” in season two, featuring background vocals from Gwyneth Paltrow, Naya Rivera and Heather Morris.

Tori Amos
Amos has often covered the song during tours.

Miley Cyrus
The pop star delivered a soulful cover of the song during the 2018 MusiCares Person of the Year gala honoring Fleetwood Mac.

And, of course, here is where it all began:
