Default Elvis Costello covers Fleetwood Mac!

Apparently Elvis Costello has just released a CD single for his latest single, "Monkey To Man," which includes a live cover of "Love That Burns." I think it's only for sale in the UK. Anyone heard this? I'm trying to imagine what it might sound like and getting goosebumps already.

I'd love to hear this. His take on it should be pretty interesting.

Well, here's the Amazon.com link if anybody's interested enough to buy it: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...glance&s=music

I think I'll just hope he plays it in concert next year if I get the chance to see him again.

Well, Elvis did mention in a recent interview that he followed Peter Green's music when he was growing up. See this post I made a few months ago:

ec is playing 'love that burns', at least at some shows. see:

so, if you get the chance to hear his version please let us know what it sounds like.

another significant connection between elvis c. and peter is bruce thomas, bassist for the attractions. bruce played on pete bardens 'the answer' sessions in 1969 with peter and bruce is a huge admirer of peter.

best, zero

Default more covers

just heard these:
Dave Specter & Steve Freund, two blues guitarists, cover "Albatross" and "Rollin' Man" (a personal favorite of mine), on their new CD together. Specter leans more towards the jazz spectrum and Freund remains rooted in a heavier Chicago sound.
I have heard their version of "Rollin' Man" and their two approaches mesh nicely, this number being especially well suited to the contrasting styles. Much as I enjoyed it though, for me, there is really no way to top the studio version. It is one of Green's best vocal performances, and the horns are really effective on it. Always surprised me that CBS left that one off the "English Rose" compilation.

Actually, Green did top it - with a live version recorded in Stockholm on 04/01/70 - Green introduces the song as "a very old one" and then proceeds to run variations on the theme for nearly eight minutes. Great stuff!

In related news, another blues band, called Stringbean and the Stalkers feature a cover of John Mayall's "Room to Move" on their latest, a live collection - stays pretty true to the original but it is nice to see these giants acknowledged by the next generation of players.
