Are we NUTS!!???
We haven't even DISCUSSED Peacekeeper's lyrics in a LONG, DRAWN OUT THREAD!! LOL So, let's do it!!
Here are the lyrics: We make all of our suns (or heck, is it SONS?) the same Every one will suffer the fire we've made They all explode just the same And there's no going back on the plans we've made Peacekeeper take your time Wait for the dark of night Soon all the suns will rise Peacekeeper don't tell why Don't be afraid to fight Love is the sweet surprise Only creatures who are on their way Ever poison their own well But we still have time to hate And there's still something we can sell <---Trippin on THAT!! Peacekeeper take your time Wait for the dark of night Soon all the suns will rise Peacekeeper don't tell why Don't be afraid to fight Love is the sweet surprise When the night is cold and still When you thought you'd had your fill Take all the time you will This is not a test, it's not a drill Take no prisoners, only kill You know all of our friends are gods And they all tell us how to paint our face But there's only one brush we need It's the one that never leaves a trace Peacekeeper take your time Wait for the dark of night Soon all the suns will rise Peacekeeper don't tell why Don't be afraid to fight Love is the sweet surprise Peacekeeper take your time Wait for the dark of night Soon all the suns will rise Peacekeeper don't tell why Don't be afraid to fight Love is the sweet surprise When the night is cold and still When you thought you've had your fill This is not a test, it's not a drill Take no prisoners, only kill I FRICKIN LOVE THIS SONG!!!! I have been singing it at work!! It is so flippin catchy!! Now, the lyrics... I have NO CLUE what he is trying to say...is this about war or is it an analogy for something else? Here's my take on one stanza (cuz it's late and I need sleep and I wanna hear ya'll's thoughts on this AWESOME song!!): Only creatures who are on their way Ever poison their own well But we still have time to hate And there's still something we can sell Okee, when people in the armed forces are at war, and they have been at a certain spot for awhile, and then, they leave NEVER to return, they must sabotage where they have been, right? They don't leave their water behind, unless they poison it for when the enemy comes, if they do. It's that last line that is KILLING ME!!! In regards to what we've been through the past month or so with the fan club, the new info on buying the songs, etc...it just FREAKS me the heck out!! LOL Okay, I'm going to bed now...night ya'll and DISCUSS!!! LOL

I LOVE this song. I think the poison well line is awesome. LB certainly has hit the nail on the head with this one.

Hi, I'm new here, but here's what I think...
I do think that suns/sons is a pun. It makes sense that Lindsey will begin making reference to his family in his music. This whole song looks like a metaphor to me. I think it means that if you walk the straight line and try to be true and faithful to what is important to you, that justice will work everything out in the end. I'm not sure what his stance on war is, but 'Peacekeeper' could be either the U.S. who is claming to be 'peacekeeper' of the world or it could be anyone opposed to war (not sure here). But in either case, you can make a parallel to Lindsey's life. He feels that he's remained true to his vision and finally, Fleetwood Mac has come back to him kind of on his terms. As for the poison your own well line, I think that makes reference to artists who continue to rip-off their own material until it all becomes irrelevant. Lindsey has 'refused' to poison the 'Rumors' well. If FM makes stuff that steals from Rumors, it weakens the artistry of the masterpiece. Anyway, I've gone on too long. This is just how I think of it.

Lindsey's Peacekeeper...
WELCOME Here to...Go Insane!!!
Your critique is interesting!Iam hearing the line as...Don't tell LIES [gov't lies!] Don't be afraid to fight!!![for integrity!] Love{of his Son}is the Sweet Surprise! Everyone will die...[all explode] as they suffer the fire[nuclear bombs]we made! It fit in at the end of 3rd Watch with all the sirens and bloody fighting scenes! Lindsey tries to be ambiguous and he lets the fans think-out what the lyric means!!! Some mighty heavy-weight words for him! He sure got Christy and ME thinking!Sky LOVE ~~~ IS THE SWEET SURPRISE !!!!!!!

Alright, I'm just going to have to ask my question. The lyrics are fine as far as I'm concerned....but does anyone else find the music especially deviant from the overall GOS sound? It sounds waayy more pop than the rest of them. In one respect, I'm not surpised at all that it's the first single, but in another, I'm kind of disappointed because it seems a bit of a cop out to me.

A Lindsey quote...
From the new Guitar Player Magazine:
I just try to find a lyric that has some truth, grace and mystery. Hopefully, it will bridge the line between something personal and something that's about the world in a broader sense." This is a cool quote in terms of what we are discussing here in this thread. Truth - Check. Grace - Check. Mystery - HECK YEAH! LOL We have no idea WHAT this song means, and I would HOPE that in another article coming soon, Lindsey will explain Peacekeeper in his opinion. I'm taking that quote to mean that Peacekeeper has TWO meanings...a personal meaning for Lindsey and one regarding the world in general. But, then again, I could be full of crap. Brian, I agree, it's a VERY POPPY song, and when I first heard the version on Third Watch, I was not happy with the different sound to it as opposed to LB's solo version which rocked more. I've gotten over it tho and I like both, even tho I LOVE LB's version WAY better. I am wondering what the album version will sound like, if it's different at all. Things that make you go hmmmm..... BTW, in reference to the pop-ishness of it, I recall LB saying that Trouble was his "single" song on L&O, the one that didn't sound like ANY of the other songs on the album..which, it doesn't. I think Peacekeeper is THAT song...the pop single that comes first out of the shoot to draw people into the different sound that we will be getting from SYW...at least, that's what I'm PRAYING for!!! LOL

Peacekeeper Lyrics!!!
Hi Lindsey Fans!! I just thought to my self:
We are ALL right as the ambiguousness and the double meaning of SUN/SON make Lindsey's words so thought provoking and so much better!!! His agelessness is his Gift to his fans! You feel lyrics your way from life experiences and I enjoy thinking my way!Sky -Brian~Deviant?!I don't think it's a GOS Song! His variations on this tune are like Morrow or his throbbing Miranda song about ppl's chaos! The man is a Professional! Lindsey is GREATTT!!! A Long, Lean, Cryptic MUSIC Making Machine! CHRISTY! The Cover is Gorgeous!Like the quotes! Thanks a Lot!!!I Can't Wait to get MY GP Mags.!

To Christy
Christy, these are just great points you've made about how Peacekeeper can mean different things to different people.
I mean, I've read everyone's interpretations here (and on the Rumours forum) and I can see relevance in all of them, even the ones who think it's about Stevie. I still think it's quite politically charged, but that's just me. And isn't this one of the great things about art? An artist creates something with his/her own vision, and each of us carry away something different, yet hopefully powerful. I recall seeing some of Van Gogh's original work in Amsterdam. A few of his paintings literally brought me to tears--but I couldn't tell you why. I just felt something amazing. Now, so far none of Lindsey's lyrics/music have brought me to tears (although I gotta say the live versions of Big Love and Go Insane can be quite moving) a lot of Lindsey's work has this ability to be vague or specific, and the quote you posted from him about his lyrics says this. But doesn't everyone agree that this burst of dialogue and interaction about the song is a great thing? Through his art, Lindsey has a whole bunch of people conversing about their views on the world. That's pretty powerful, if you ask me. Again, great post and thanks. |

I'd like to quote THA MASTA again..LOL
Lindsey said "Music is a form of expression that rings truer than speech." HOW MUCH MORE TRUE CAN HE BE??!?!?!? (BTW, did I get that quote exactly right ya'll? LOL)
Music is UNIVERSAL and brings about more conversation than any other medium, IMO. Just think about 2 Live Crew's album from back in the day!! THAT got MAJOR press, but do we hear about some dumb senator's ideas on medicaid...nope. I'm SURE not over at USGOVERNMENT.COM discussing foreign policy with those morons, I'm over here discussing PEACEKEEPER with you awesome Ledgies!! So, LONG LIVE MUSIC!!

Time to edit the lyrics...."Only kill" has become "break their will".
What the hell does that even mean? Do you reckon that was a last minute change..? It reeks of record label interference....IMO. |

Although I have not yet heard the new song on AOL, I agree the change smacks of a "tone it down or else" from someone. I cannot wait until tonight until I can hear it!!!!

Family Song?
I really doubt he is referring to his own family/son when he says "They [sons] all explode just the same." JMHO.

I agree with Seteca. "Take no prisoners, break their will" makes no sense. You take prisoners to break their will. If you do not take them, how do you break their will? "Take no prisoners, only kill" makes sense.

Hah I hadn't realised that contradiction!
But I guess it can be explained when you think of it this way - a war that doesn't take prisoners but destroys their livelihoods by blowing things up etc.
