Favorite Lindsey guitar moment...
On SYW, what are your fave guitar moments?
1. Red Rover - when the guitars combine into this thumping sound, like a drumbeat...that is SOOO exhilerating. Also, that guitar moment that repeats throughout the song and is heard first at time 1:03-04. 2. Destiny Rules - the ending...pure bluegrassy-country-ish and it is GORGEOUS!!!! 3. Peackeeper - that 80's guitar sound at time 2:34!!! 4. Smile at You - the ending guitar, the Chinese influence is AWESOME!!!!!! 5. Murrow/Come solos!!!

The most memorable guitar moment for me was when Lindsey played the solo to I'm So Afraid when I saw the band during the Dance tour. I still get chills when I think about it.

1. Red Rover - Lindsey seems to create a mini orchestra, with all those guitars going simultaneously.
2. Thrown Down - I love that main rift. It's so soft, I love it 3. Murrow - I like the acoustic part in the beginning - followed by the ear piercing solos and barages of guitars. 4. Say Goodbye - Like Bach - awesome 5. Say You Will - I like the solo

Well, amongst great competition, I probably pick the ending minute or so of "Bleed to Love Her." It is just almost too sad and beautiful at the same time, which I think completely conveys most effectively the nature and emotion of that song - talk about painting with music! Of course, this opinion could change with my next listen as I really like the wailing of Come and the subtle hints of brilliance on "Smile at You."
My favorite LB moment ever on guitar is probably "Big Love" on The Dance, although ISA from The Dance and Rhiannon circa the 70's are a very close second - if not a tie. That one man can make a guitar sound like that in all three of these songs, but esp. in that "Big Love," sends me somewhere good. Did I forget to mention "Frozen Love" live or studio (which let's not forget is also a live thing in one take!) probably sits in judgement on all of the abovementioned Too many choices!!!! I totally agree with what you said about RR, DR and PK. They are also some of my top highlights. The Murrow solo - especially the way he got the scorching sound ... is just intense. I have to take my hat off to Say Goodbye - that song is perfect (ie the SYW retouched version in particular). And ALL of Come ... as you say, the outro, which just 'kicks bad ass' , but moreso even for me the intro with the spanish-style flamenco-ish trill, then how he approached the verse guitar with the whole 'cubist' method. It's trippy for sure.

Joe...
Are you CRAZY!?!! We would be here for a VERY, VERY, VERY long time if I said "What are your fave guitar moments EVER from Lindsey?" LOL WOW, I could go on for days, months....years? LOL Yeah, I was just wondering about SYW especially due to all the lil guitar moments that aren't IN YOUR FACE, but subtle and quiet...those are equally as intriguing as the kick @ss guitar solos!! And yes, in my #5, Come's opening, that Spanish guitar is included in the GREATNESS....that song just frickin ROCKS!!!!!
SG is greatness too, but I really prefer the no Stevie version...EXCEPT for the very last lil guitar moment that he changed...BRILLIANT!!! BTW, RTTG solo is coolness too!! I love that raw 80's feel to it!!

...Well, I've only had my copy of SYW for less than a week (I'm slow I know...but hey!!!) and Christy , I agree RTTG is a fab LB guitar moment It's got a whole Tango in the Night thing about it almost, it would be a great song to play live ( and I am not a huge Stevie fan but...)
The other guitar piece I'm into at the moment is Love minus Zero ( does that count?) such a lovely song his playing is beautiful.

Ah yes good pick Mich. What's the deal with the Bonus Disk - the songs on it are some of the very best! Yeah his guitar (and voice!) really shine on No Limit .. especially that little guitar solo bridge. There's like 3 verses before it... I'm always going "Come on, come on!" so he'll stop yapping and get to the bridge already!

Greatest guitar moment
Well, since someone mentioned something outside of the Say You Will album, I figure I might also.
My favorite Lindsey guitar moment is his performance of Countdown on David Letterman in 1992. UN-BELIEVABLE!!!! David Letterman was ecstatic: "MY GOD, MAN YOU WERE GREAT!!!!!!!!!" were his words. I have that on video and have to watch it every so often. They acheived superb close-ups of his fingerpicking. Chris |
