Default Song of the Week (2)

Chosen this week....

Mary Lee Jones

Days were lonely and so were the nights
She could not tell wrong from right.
Body broken, worn to the bone,
The final days of Mary Lee Jones, Mary Lee Jones.

She could not get him out of her mind.
Too much passion drove her blind.
Nothing she could call her own,
The final days of Mary Lee Jones, Mary Lee Jones.

Days were lonely and so were the nights.
She could not tell wrong from right.
Nothing she could call her own,
The final days of Mary Lee Jones, Mary Lee Jones

Wow. This song is really freaky, ain't it? LOL This woman has issues. Sounds to me like she loved someone SO much, she went insane, a theme that Lindsey likes to use alot. LOL Someone took her soul from her, leaving her a broken vessel.
"Nothing she could call her own..." How sad for her. I assume in the lyrics "the final days of Mary Lee Jones" that she eventually killed herself, feeling that she had nothing to live for. Dang, this song is depressing. Didn't really pay too much attention to it like this before.

The guitar is just crazy nuts!! Perhaps Lindsey is trying to show the passion she had for her love through the passionate guitar playing? Just a thought.

I've never heard this one before, but my interest is definitely piqued. It sounds like miranda in many ways. Is it from Go Insane I'm guessing?

Arrow Joe!!

You must get Law and Order....for the songs Bwana, Trouble and Shadow of the West ALONE!! TERRIFIC songs!! Bwana is a little bit weird, but it's a cute little song with freaky vocals a tad reminiscent of Time Bomb Town, but not THAT freaky. Trouble is the hit with GREAT guitar work, and Shadow (with CM bgv's!) is a GORGEOUS western-y kind of song. One of my faves.

Highly recommended!

OK, well one day in the distant future when I actually have money I will have all the CDs! But yeah I'm familiar with Shadow, Trouble, and Bwana. In fact I looked at it in the CD shop at it only had like 9 tracks so I was like, 'hmm, not this time.'

I HATE mary lee Jones. I like your idea of disscussing random songs, and I'd like to add week 1's random song was amazing, but week 2 gets a Big thumbs DOWN from me.

Exclamation Hawkeye...

I seriously DID randomly choose MLJ (by closing my eyes and pointing to it. LOL). Sorry you hate it. Can you tell us WHY you hate it? Do you hate the lyrics, music, his vocals, guitar...what?

It's not one of my fave LB solo songs and I do skip it sometimes when I listen to L&O, but I love to hear people's ideas about LB's music.

Heart Law and Order!!!

My brother bought me Law and Order years ago!
The top tune is... TROUBLE!!! A terrific Love Song!

Iam a Jones Girl... so I dislike his sad lyrics but it has a
great vibe in the music! I think SHADOW is gorgeous!

Well, I'm a Mary Lee Jones fan. It's in my top 3 or 4 songs from that album. I liked what Rolling Stone said about it because I hadn't realized until I read the review that he really does sustain a single note throughout the song, right until the end where he takes off:

For most of "Mary Lee Jones," Buckingham sustains a single guitar note at the center of the harmony. Suddenly, this note blasts into fuzzed-out blues licks, like a Maserati pulling loose from a snowdrift.

Law & Order is a big favorite of mine, I listen to it more often than any of the others - it's like LB was just let out to play after being cooped up for a long time. I'm a big Mary Lee Jones fan too - I may be misremembering, but didn't LB say this is about one of those made-up composite women he likes to write about, and not an actual person? I love the RS quote - what a description!
