Default Is In the Meantime good?

I've read some reviews of In The Meantime, but haven't heard anything from Ledgies. Reviewers didn't dig it very much. What do you guys think?? I saw it in a used record store and, like a retard, didn't pick it up. Should I have?

I think ITM is a good album. I think it could have been better, as some of the production is a little bland.

The album is a little uneven, IMO. The first and last thirds are good; what's in between is lacking. I consider "Friend" and "You Are" to be in the same vein as her Mac hits. Vocally, she sounds incredible. Quite possibly the best she ever has.

Thanks Krista! I shoulda picked it up at that record store! The thing is though, I find a lot of Christine's songs to be... I hate to say it... but, lame! When she gets it right, she gets is SOOOO right, but she has written some serious boner songs!

Some of her lyrics can be trite and lame, but almost all of her songs are a pleasant listen. I can only think of one song of hers I truly hate ("Only Over You.")

i don't think it's a particularly good album (to say the least), but i was silenced by an angry (yet a very small) mob while trying to point that out.

So why bother popping into this forum?
ITM isn't a FM album. It's a Christine album, with lots of nice, poppy songs. Just what "we" expected, and enjoy very much.
Your mileage may vary...

I could be waaaaaay off here, but I think he might want to know people's opinions on the album "In the Meantime".
Probably people who have heard the album. People here on the Ledge, even.

He's placed it... in the Christine McVie forum, which seems appropriate....

ha, but I could be way off, that's just my own crazy interpretation.

I really liked ITM when I first heard it but some of the songs I'm not so keen on now. But there's some really nice stuff on there too. It's much better than her 1984 album.
I think if you like 90s-era Christine McVie then you'll like ITM, personally.

Amber:

As for In The Meantime, I didn't like the album at first but a good year later it now sounds fine to me; I find it to be a pretty even album with very little filler. Maybe the evenness is a problem at first, in that almost nothing seemed to stick out for me in the first listens, but at least this album doesn't get you to spill coffee on your keyboard, and that's a good thing.

And like it's been said before, Christine's voice is as great on In The Meantime as it's been in 1972, or 1977, or 1987, or whenever. Her voice and her deliveries have never disappointed me.

Is In the Meantime good?

Yes!! I think it's a warm, intimate, understated, terrific pop album. If you want a loud, noisy album, this isn't the album for you. It's certainly not over produced, which I really like as well. And, Christine's voice is the best it's ever been. Her vocal range is intact. She actually sings in a lower register, but she has no trouble at all hitting the high notes when needed. There are quite a few songs on this album that are as good as her 70's era songs, in my opinion. I think this is her best solo album.

Personally I don't take any notice of reviewers who just seem to follow fashion.

If you like pop/rock music for grown ups then you'll like ITM.

Some of the songs would have made Say You Will a lot stronger.

I think it's a very honest album with lots of good songs on it - there's none of them that I hate.

But the best thing is the amazing voice which somehow has got better with age.

Because as a public service he felt the overriding compulsion to point it out..........just one more time.

The only thing is that I want more cowbell...er, piano. The production on the album bothers me because I think it could've been "more Christine." As someone said already (I think it was Krista), the production tends to be bland and that makes some of the songs sound too alike. But aside from that, there are some wonderful tunes and great songwriting. Most of all, her voice is crystal clear and simply beautiful on it. It makes you think about what the Mac is missing right now. There's something else that I appreciate about it every time I pop it in. That's my take.

And Amber, you couldn't be more correct, as far as I'm concerned. Daniel wanted to know what other Ledgies thought of it, and Tommer stated his opinion. Plus, he didn't even state his opinion like it's fact, as Josh likes to do. Of course we've been through this with Homie many times before. And I'll continue to go in circles debating this subject.

Wow, beautifully put.

I totally agree Hillary. I remember the first time I heard the album I was surprised at how much guitar and how little piano was on it. I think it could have done with a little less Dan Perfect and a little more Christine McVie IMO.

There are a couple of songs which don't hold up for me, BUT it's worth owning, if just for You Are alone. That song could have been on a classic 70s-era Fleetwood Mac album I think, it's beautiful.

Like an idiot, i was sitting here for a minute thinking 'You Are Alone", what song is that?! Don't think my coffee kicked in this morning....

anyway-- my take on ITM is that her voice sounds amazing, and that most of the songs are very good, if perhaps (to my ears) a little bland at times. I have to agree w/ the way John put it in the Q&A-- that there's good stuff on there, but that he, Mick, Stevie and Lindsey could have 'helped out a bit.' I think their involvement could have made the good stuff fantastic. Just as I think her involvement w/ SYW would have strengthened that album as well.
