Rock Gems of the 70s: Fleetwood Mac's Oh Well
I know, I know, this was recorded in 1969, and the real Fleetwood Mac wasn't around for much of the 70s as Peter Green faded into mental illness. Still, they were ahead of their time (and they were also the greatest blue-eyed blues band bar none) and Oh Well is a great example of their inventiveness. The album this song comes from, Then Play On also features their rock anthem Rattlesnake Shake, well worth checking out.

Jason Saulnier interviews Bob Welch guitarist for Fleetwood Mac from 1971 to 1974.
We talk about the Nashville flooding the worst in 500 years. We talk about recording the classic Fleetwood Mac albums which guitars and amplifiers were used.
The early days of recording and how every few years tracks would be added to the recording systems.

From Peter Green's stage comments, this is from one week into Fleetwood Mac's first U.S. tour and he sounds like he's having a really good time on the last night of a 3 show run with Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane. This is presumed to be the last night because Peter Green makes a comment about how they'll be back in 2 weeks (not the following night). I think that they returned to the Carousel on the 22nd or 23rd of June.
Enjoy this terrific recording !!!

While playing a gig with The Jam Band, Steven Tyler was impressed by Jam Band's cover of Fleetwood Mac's song 'Rattlesnake Shake.'
In a June 1975 interview with Circus Magazine, Steven Tyler said the following about the experience, "They did this song so well that I knew if I could get together with these guys, we could pull the same feelings off with some of the songs I wrote, so I got together with them...I loved Joe's style. He always played out of tune and real sloppy and I just loved it."

In 1977, Peter Green, who had earlier left Fleetwood Mac, was institutionalized after firing a pistol in the general direction of a delivery boy who was attempting to deliver a $30,000 royalty check. Green had renounced Rock and Roll in 1970 and didn't want the money. He later worked as a hospital porter and a gravedigger, but came back in 1979 to record "In the Skies", which did manage some moderate success. Worked out well for Fleetwood Mac as well....

Peter never fired a gun at any one that we know of.
he was arrested for threatening to do it with a gun that was at his brothers house in another city from where he lived. And I guess someone should finally say that the person who split the royalty rights for a lot of Peters music was the person who forwarded the message which was not given first hand and facilitated the calling of the police. He may never have been put in jail for a crime that he did not commit if it were not for a person with vested interested in peters funding stream. there a lot of " nots" in that last sentence, but I think you will get my drift.

Default yes mario another important point

Thanks Mario,

Even when you listen to that "Gentleman", in the "Man Of The World"video bio, he neglects to mention that fact. Only that Peter had let him register the stuff, which after all was a mistake perhaps, or not if you ascribe to the premise that Peter did not give any credence to any value to their songs that they would actually be worth anything. That The guy would eventually hold the band hostage with copyrighted material and nicklel and dime Peter when he needed cash is amazing. That it would then further result in Peter being the crazy bad guy in this just shows how crazy this world is.

In another note , you never hear much about what Mick John or Christine were told when that same guy started the Fake Fleetwood Mac playing the songs that he owned because of this. I would love to hear about that but I guess that is tied up in lawsuit litigation

yours truly

doodyhead.

I went to the site but did not find the posting. It would be helpful if folks who write about this stuff would take the time to fact check like they used to do in newspapers. (LOL)The truth on the web is an elusive thing

Default sorry

Dear Vivfox,

I also did not imply that you said it either.

It is just that when a lie gets repeated over and over, it somehow is taken to be true.

Just look at American politics as an example.

The only way it stops is when people continually have to correct the BULLS__T artists every time. THe price of freedom is vigilance.
