Default Christine Perfect.

Some people are rightly wanting Polydor or someone licensing from them to reissue the Buckinham Nicks album on CD, but when is the Legendary Christine Perfect album of 1970 ever going to be available? It's insane not to have this available unless she herself wants to block it because it has rave reviews and the vinyl LP goes for $30 or more.

I saw a German Chicken Shack collection awhile back which featured her tracks and missed it when eBay was improving and it took two minutes for the bid page to load and I lost it (first time for everything). It went for the minimum if you can believe it. I even let the owner know and hoped they had another one. Now I can't find that CD again but am sure GEMM has it listed but not enough info for me to tell. I would love a best of Christine Perfect with Chicken Shack release with most or all the tracks she contributed vocals and writing to.

Smile I agree

It would be good to see an update of this stuff In fact, I think Mike Vernon said in the liner notes to either FM's "The complete Blue Horizon sessions" box set or the V/A "The Blue Horizon story vol. 1" box set (I can't remember which) that there was plans to re-release many of the Blue Horizon titles on CD but I have yet to see any evidence of this (since the 1993 UK (or was it Dutch?) division of CBS stuff and besides the box sets that is).

I just checked GEMM and I could only find one but it was for $254!

Oh well, hopefully they'll be re-releases soon.

John

I think there's a CD of it available through Import channels, either, as John said, the UK or from Germany or some European source...I've SEEN it and held it in my hands (and I don't mean the copy I burnt for myself from collected mp3s)

I have a nice scan of the Blue Horizon album front and a track list which is the same for 1969-70 and 1976 editions. I thought I'd Rather Go Blind was on a Chicken Shack album first though. It says Kirwan plays on some tracks on this album as well as John McVie, plus Top Topham. You'd think people would really want this, and with Seymour Stein's liner notes from the 1976 rerelease. I have seen a Buckingham Nicks 1973 album on CD from Australia I think (I have a homemade of that) but not this one, but I'll keep watching and that's just going from online auctions which are more hit or miss with buy it now features.

1. Crazy 'Bout You Baby (Williamson) - 3:01
2. I'm on My Way (Malone) - 3:08
3. Let Me Go (Leave Me Alone) (Perfect) - 3:23
4. Wait and See (Perfect) - 3:12
5. Close to Me (Hayward/Perfect) - 2:39
6. I'd Rather Go Blind (Foster/Jordan) - 3:14
7. When You Say (Kirwan) - 3:14
8. And That's Saying a Lot (Godfrey/Jackson) - 2:57
9. No Road Is the Right Road (Perfect) - 2:48
10. For You (Perfect) - 2:44
11. I'm Too Far Gone (To Turn Around) (Hendrix/Otis) - 3:25
12. I Want You (White) - 2:22

I found the Chicken Shack CD I had seen from Germany again, it's titled The Very Best Of which has some of Christine's best with it. The collections On Air and In The Can also have her listed.

Danny Kirwan & John McVie play ONLY on Danny's "When You Say".

"I'd Rather Go Blind" was recorded WITH "Chicken Shack" as her backup band, but was released as a single under her own name.

And, if anyone doesn't already know, Top Topham was the original lead guitarist with The Yardbirds...when he quit (due to parental pressure), Eric Clapton took his place, we know what happened THEN, don't we?

ANY Buckingham Nicks CD from ANYWHERE in the world is a bootleg.

Wasn't there some kind of Albatross/Perfect combination album? I can't find anything on it now but I remember seeing something like that around.

The Buckingham Nicks CD with professional looking graphics is still on eBay over and over (pun intended) starts at $14.99 and usually goes for around $30-40 in the end. One up now says "Here is a great hard to find cd by Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham. It is the Anthem Records Collector's Edition. There are 11 songs. This cd is brand new and sealed." Being sealed it shouldn't be Australian, but it shows on the back it says 'made in australia'. There are photos of the front and back of it. And rather than eight tracks there are 11.

I've got most of these on a FM album. The album is called 'Albatross'

I don't imagine any incarnation of the Christine Perfect album will be reissued on cd as long as Christine herself is dismissive of it. I recall an interview with her in which she described it as "the worst album ever made". She has been disparaging of the collection on more than a few occasions, which is kind of ironic when you consider that it ****s all over anything she's done in the last twenty years.

Her Chicken Shack recordings were definitely among her best and if you can get your hands on the band's "best of" edition that features "I'd Rather Go Blind", then you'll have everything you need from that period. I can't believe it's become so rare and sought after - I bought my edition from a bargain bin about 10 years ago for just a few dollars.

As already mentioned during this thread, Buckingham Nicks has never been officially issued on cd, either by Stevie and Lindsey or any record company. As chiliD said, any cd version you come across is most definitely a bootleg, but I must admit that the Anthem edition is quite a good one.

The recordings have been sourced from what sounds like second or third generation master tapes so the audio is clear and has reasonable fidelity. A couple of the quieter tracks like Django and Lola My Love contain a little background noise and inexplicably, there is an annoying cut between Django and Races Are Run.

That said, it's a good interim measure until the album is properly remastered and officially released on cd, plus it does contain the 7" remix version of Crying In The Night, which for those who haven't heard it, is a lot rockier with heavier electric guitars.

Please note that the inserts appear to be nothing more than photocopies and the disc itself is an embossed CD-R.

I have a beautiful near mint copy of the U.K. Blue Horizon Christine Perfect LP plus an import CD from France of the same album. I got both on eBay and both were VERY expensive. As Phil said, as long as Chris has anything to say about it, this album will probably never be released on CD. Just read the transcript of that online chat on another thread. She actually seems embarrassed about this album. I don't agree with her. I would take her album over the Buckingham/Nicks album any day. But then, I'm more of a Christine fan than a Buckingham/Nicks fan anyway.

IRGB may have been released as a CP single to promote the CP album later on or something but I do have the ORIGINAL CHICKEN SHACK single of IRGB (and it is the same version of the song that appears on the CP album). I've only held on to it due to the fact that it is backed with a CS track that Christine plays on that it not available on the early CS albums ("Forty blue fingers freshly packed and ready to serve" & "OK Ken") called "Night life". There was also a re-release of IRGB on a single in 1974 with a song by a latter day line up of CS called "Sad clown" but of course that track has NOTHING to do with CP/CM , in other words she doen't play on it.

The "Albatross" album is redundant IMO as it has one side of early Mac tracks and one side of CP solo tracks. Specifically 8 of the 12 tracks that are on the CP album. The 4 they omitted are "Wait and see", "Close to me", "For you" & "I want you".

CS's "In the can" compilation is mainly redundant as you can get most of those CP/CM related Shack tracks on the more essential FBFFPARTS & "OK Ken" and you'd need to get the singles to get the other tracks CP plays on anyways.

Also, I have the CP album on CD in my collection so it does exist on CD in it's original form in it's entirety on CD (though hard to find as mentioned before). If a scan of the front, back, side, (whatever) would help, let me know.

I agree also that BN has never come out on CD legally. Whoever made up that stuff about it being "made in Australia" may be telling the truth in the sense that the BOOTLEG of the CD may have been made in Australia but if they are insinuating that it was LEGALLY released in Austarlia then they are not telling the truth.

As I'm a little strapped for time right now, I'm going to paste in what I had rambled on about in a thread last year about the CP/CM CS stuff like "On air", "From the vaults", the CS singles with "non (FBFFPARTS & "OK Ken") album" tracks and I think FBFFPARTS & OK Ken" themselves so I hope it's of some help. :

The "BBC one" Roxy is referring to is called "On air" on Band of Joy records from 1992 (UK release). Note that the song titled "Night is when it matters" is actually "No road is the right road" from this collection. When I lived in the UK a few years ago, I did see it in places like HMV etc. but less as the years went on. However, there was another similar collection of live recordings released on Indigo in 1997 called "From the vaults" which has many Christine era CS tunes as well and these recordings are all different to the ones that are on OA with the exception of "You done lost that good thing now" (which is the same recording on both CD's. Though it is billed on FTV as "You've done lost your good thing now", it is the same recording). As it is that few years newer, this one may be easier to find than "On air". I found my copy of FTV at a Virgin Megastore so I'd imagine it would still be kicking around somewhere in your area.

I personally on the whole prefer 40BFFPARTS & "OK Ken" to these two but there's still some good Chris stuff (etc.) on these live compilations which are both "legal" releases. I don't know, maybe it's the poorer sound quality or something but they do give you a peak at some of the post Christine recordings as well so you can see if any of those appeal to you or not. Unfortunately the liner notes to both OA & FTV do not indicate as to when any of these tapes were recorded so I/you/we just have to make our best educated guesses on them as to when they are from though it is obvious that at least some tunes are definitely NOT from the Chrstine era (such as "Telling your fortune" etc.).

If you prefer rare vinyl, you might look in to tracking down the 4 CS singles that Christine was on which includes material not available elsewhere and they are:

I'D RATHER GO BLIND / NIGHT LIFE
IT'S OKAY WITH ME BABY / WHEN MY LEFT EYE JUMPS
WHEN THE TRAIN COMES BACK / HEY BABY
WORRIED ABOUT MY WOMAN / SIX NIGHTS IN SEVEN

IRGB is the same recording that appears on the "Christine Perfect" album so it's not so much for that song you'd need that single for but of course she plays on the Stan Webb led ballad "Night life" on the B-side. As far as I know IOWMB was Christine's recording debut as she leads the Shack through this chunky number. HB is also a great Chris led shuffle. The version of WTTCB on this single has the same instrumental backing track to the 40BFFPARTS album version of the song but in addition to it including some added horns, it includes a different lead vocal track from Christine so this may be of interest to you as well though be prepared to pay a pretty penny for these if you can find any of them. I'd suggest you try the UK mag "Record collector" for starters on these. If you need catalog numbers, etc. (or any other further info on these), just let me know. I hope this was of some help for you in the meantime.

John

Well, last night I had a post about as long as this latest one from John and just before I could click "post" we had a power outage that has yet to be solved (we've had 60-80mph winds the past 14 hrs or so...in fact, as of 7:30 this morning there STILL was a downed power line draped across my roof)

So, now I'm back in the office and here's my SEVERELY truncated version of my post.

Here's the link to the "Albatross" album from the Penguin Discography:

http://www.fleetwoodmac.net/penguin/albums/albatros.htm

It was released on CD (I have it)...as John said, it's kind of a redundant release for those who already have either the first two Fleetwood Mac albums and the Christine Perfect album.

This thread has a lot of information in it, and that's great! Thanks for sharing this info.

I am really happy with my homemade BN thing, it seems the first 11 tracks are the same as the supposed Australian thing and sounds crystal clear plus has three extras from what was meant for BNII but they are lower quality. I didn't pay anything close to $40, just for the CD-R and postage and a bit extra. I have a really crappy Rumours outtakes CD-R I might as well have thrown in the trash, I didn't get it on auction though but it was still a disappointment. Sounds about as good when I pick up a Mexican station in the middle of the night, and I'm north of Seattle. I haven't heard many MP3s that were passable to me though but I have extremely sensitive hearing and wear earplugs almost 24 hours often.

Christine should realize that people want to hear her early work and I don't think anyone judges anyone's early work harshly, but from all accounts it is very accomplished. Some authors do not want their old pulp potboiler fiction to be seen, you'd think it was porno or something, but usually when you track it down it doesn't live up to the mystique it's gotten because of the creator's embarrassment. I love my early Beatles with Sheridan and Doors demos and Chad Allen And The Expressions before they became Guss Who and so forth. I wish like Randy Bachman, Christine would put out limited editions on her own presented however she wants to and make some money because we are interested, but maybe she wants everything out there to be totally Perfect. :^)

Oh and though I mentioned it kind of before... it is illegal to sell sealed CDs in Australia, which is why it's odd to see something supposedly made there promoted as being sealed. I think they don't allow it because of back when record companies shipped out empty sleeves with coupons for the vinyl LP in them.
