Default crying in the night

Ok.. I've just downloaded Crying in the night off Winmx and although I haven't heard it since 1974 ( yes it's been THAT long!!!), it sure dosn't sound like them- could it be a cover version? The arrangement is very clear, almost modern.I know their voices were probably a lot higher back then too, but it does have a Lindsey guitar sound about it, so I'm totally confused. Any thoughts...did they do another version at a later date?? All that aside it's a great song

Could it be the cover version by Firefall?

I must admit, although it's a good version, I still have my doubts..I'm afraid I don't know Firefall. The lead voice sounds kinda Stevieish, backing, not really deep enough for Lindsey, more like a bunch of girls! It really annoys me, because it was labelled as"Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks" on Winmx and people unfamiliar with their sound would not be getting the real deal, if indeed it was not them.

Exclamation I've got...

There's something labelled as "Electric version" of that song... I have that one, but I don't think that's what you're talking about. It could be the cover.

I love that song.

Cristian...The version I have is well...sort of acoustic with a noisy tambourine thing going on. Anyway, it's good but I'm not convinced it's them, so I'll have to think it's probably a cover.Do you think the "electric" version is the original, I don't know if they did one as the BN album was more acoustic wasn't it?

That's it, that's the real version. Stevie's voice was much different then.

Yes, the BN version is pretty much acoustic, and in the electric version (I listened to it again and still don't know where did that come from - it has excellent sound quality) you hear less Lindsey vocals, but Stevie's voice is much more prominent, and there's more percussion and strong electric guitars all around... You can tell the difference from the beginning: the acoustic guitar beginning is replaced with a strong electric... and after Stevie says "times were hard to all" there's immediatly a backing vocal that says "to all..." behind it.

Hope this helps.

Wasn't the single version a different mix? I have the "Electric Version" also and assumed that it was the single. But then again we all know what happens when we assume.

Dugan, you're correct.

The so-called "electric" version was the mix for the 45. It's the same basic track as the album, but remixed to include unused electric & slide guitars, along with some other additional hand percussion that was left off the album's mix.

I love the single mix/"electric" version.
Here's to hoping it's included as a bonus track on the (hopefully) inevitable release of Buckingham Nicks on CD.

Cool I also

like the electric version, although I prefer the acoustic for some reason... it fits more with the rest of the album I guess, where Lindsey and his fingerpicking are always over acoustic guitars... at least in the ryhthm section... on the top of it there's always the majestic electric parts (think "Frozen Love" or "Long Distance Winner")... but only a couple of numbers ("Lola My Love" or "Don't Let Me Down Again") are completely electric... Attractive album, and hopefully a soon-to-come official CD.
