Rumours officially 20xplatinum from RIAA!
At last! 'Rumours' has been certified 20xplatinum by the RIAA. The album was last certified in 2003.
There are also many other FM titles that need re-certifying so I hope the RIAA can get to work on those. Great news! |

That's great news! I can't believe Eagles Greatest Hits is 29x platinum. And that was released before Rumours?

It was released about a year prior. It was also released just prior to their biggest album, Hotel California. It is a greatest hits album though. I have no idea how it's sold so much. It was alone at the top of all time US charts until Michael Jackson died pushing Thriller into a tie. But again that's a studio album against a greatest hits.

It's a greatest though. Not the same thing as a regular album.

Not to sway off topic.Michael Jackson is probably up there with his albums by now along with the Beatles and Elvis .
I would like to find a list of this info. I wonder were the rest of FM albums sit with RIAA.

Pretty impressive- Rumours is only the 10th album to be certified Double Diamond in the history of the RIAA.

Yes, and 3 of those are double albums which count twice as much. So they've really sold...or shipped....half of that.

Yeah I never really understood this, as it seems (IMO) to really inflate how popular a double album actually was. On the other hand, you are paying more for it since its a double, but I always thought the better way to certify double albums would be to count them at 1.5 times the sales. That way it accounts for the higher cost/higher profits, but it doesn't double the actual units sold.

I'm curious to know what each band member made off those 20 million copies sold, if there's even a quantitative way of calculating it.

Hold on. 11 years and it only sold 1M? I heard at least 3M. I think that number is wrong.

11 years. That is 1748 records a week. We know it sells that much a week and in some instances more. After Glee 11,000 in a week. So I do wonder if this number is right. It seems low.
