Fleetwood Mac Baseball
I remember reading in Mick's book about how Fleetwood Mac used to play baseball (or was it softball) games. I think Richard might have posted a picture or two. The only picture I can find online is this one;
Does anyone know anything about this. Who played? Was it a one off game or a tournament? Against other bands? I find it really interesting that fellow Brits would pick up baseball. I know John is a bit of a sports fan and he likes his baseball jerseys but its a big departure from Cricket. Anyone got any other pictures? At the same time, what is this... Softball, I think, which seems to be a regular charity or work away day type event here in America (my husband's company here has a team in a league, they or we play at fun days, etc, interesting for him to join in as a former cricketer!). Here's some old info for you, not sure if same event
http://bla.fleetwoodmac.net/index.ph...v2&id=551&c=18 Los Angeles Times (03/29/1987), Pop Eye Penguin Los Angeles Times, March 29, 1987 POP EYE By PATRICK GOLDSTEIN ON THE TOWN: Can Vince Neil hit the long ball? Has Lindsey Buckingham lost a step? Does Christine McVie still turn a double-play the way she used to? Find out this Friday at the First Annual T. J. Martel Foundation celebrity softball double-header, a benefit for the popular music industry charity, which funds cancer and leukemia research. The first game features an all-star rock radio team playing against a record company squad, while the nightcap offers a team of celebrity rockers, headed by Motley Crue's Tommy Lee and Vince Neil (and Heather Locklear), battling a celebrity roller squad, captained by Fleetwood Mac's John McVie, Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie. Tickets for the games, which begin at 7 p.m. at the Hjelte Sports Center in Encino, are available only in advance from Ticketron or Tower Records outlets. . . . No one was ever able to teach Pop Eye to sing -- even in a cold shower. But then we never had a lesson from Seth Riggs, a noted voice coach who says he's worked with the likes of Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Madonna, Liza Minnelli, Prince, Lionel Richie, Tina Turner, Bette Midler and Julio Iglesias (to name but a few minor talents). Riggs, who uses a "speech-level singing" technique, will be leading a six-session UCLA Extension class that meets Wednesdays, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., beginning April 8. Riggs expects several celebrity guest speakers, schedules permitting. The fee is $95. Thanks. Softball must have been a big thing for them. This article was from 87 but the picture must have been Mirage era. I think Iremember Mick and/or Richard saying Gary Busey used to be on their team. Its a shame there dont seem to be more pictures of them playing. I like the idea of Christine McVie playing Softball. |
