What do you think is the most romantic FM/solo song?
I know it's not a love story, but I love the sound of "Garbo". Some of Christine's early FM stuff ("Come a Little Closer") & of course "Songbird" also have this quality - maybe also "Honey Hi". I think I'm drawing a blank for Lindsey ones.
Ideas? - Jake

Ooh, yeah. Crystal!
And I know it's totally not a romantic song in the sappy sense, but I have to say Kind of Woman. There's just a mystery thing going there or something. lol. Another of Stevie's...Love Is. Mystified is a pretty good one... I'm sure there are more.... ~Angela~ |

Without a doubt, "The Highwayman" for Stevie.
I mean it has all of the elements of great romatic saga, a cad (Don Henley/The Eagles), the chase ("her horse is like dragonfly" (sigh )), booze ("a dream begun in wine"), and heartbeak ("eyes welled with tears" and never winning). Next, probably Rooms of Fire - the whole waiting to see your partner again in death theme is very romantic to me. I also like the one of the Rhiannon demos that says "For you, Rhiannon, I would fight the world." That line and the line "her gown was no more than the water could cover" or somethig like that are also very, very romantic. For Christine, probably "As Long a You Follow" and perhaps "Warm Ways." I love "Why" but it is not really about all of the elements of romance per se; it is just about getting over someone ("my heart will rise up like the morning sun" (sigh )); same for Songbird. For LB, I would say "Steal Your Heart Away." He doesn't really write romantic songs I guess!!! Someone prove me wrong!!!!! |

Stevie: "Sleeping Angel"
Lindsey: "Bleed To Love Her" Christine: "The Smile That I Live For"

Albatross, I think is one of the most romantic pieces of music ever.
Of the Rumours lineup, I'd probably agree with Crystal. |

Garbo is a very romantic song. Sleeping Angel also. I love the box set version where it doesn't fade out as quickly at the end. From The Five, there's Landslide, Crystal, and Spare Me A Little. Can't think of a Lindser song right off the top of my head.

Great picks from everyone! "The Highwayman" is a favorite for sure, & the lyrics to "Rooms on Fire" are certainly romantic (as well as Stevie slow dancing in the red dress in the video). "Kind of Woman" has that great romantic feel, but hey, it's a cheatin' heart song (almost). "Silver Springs" has that same unrequited love thing - I guess we should distinguish between songs of love & songs of doomed love that still sound romantic!
I don't think I know that "The Smile that I Live For". I'm gonna be tarred & feathered for this, but I'm NOT a big fan of "Love Is", though I do love "If Anyone Falls" - video and all. (Seems I stand alone!) That Stevie demo sounds like "Forest of the B;lack Roses" & is called "Maker of Birds/Three Birds of Rhiannon" It ends: "For you are in my blood." (Stevie at a high note!) Together w/"Bleed to Love Her", maybe we're onto something... -Jake

Requested lyrics from Stevie Nicks Demos & Outtakes Page:
(The Three Birds of Rhiannon) Stevie Nicks Demo A bird that is not mine... Three birds that belong to her One emerald-green, One snow-white... One golden, flashing like a Sunbeam through the night... One golden, flashing like a Sunbeam through the night... When at first he saw her... It seemed she had no name She sat alone, and it seemed to him... That the light and her face were the same... Her hair shone... Streamed blond and gold... He thought..."Maybe... I'm going insane..." Her gown was no more Than the water could cover... This time would not come again... And the white mares dance... And the Lady asks... "Take my wisdom with you... I shall ride... If you kill the dark Lord of Death... Someday, I shall be your wife... Someday, I shall be your wife..." And the birds are still singing... And the song is now sweeping... Like a silver... A silver shimmering flood... "For you, Rhiannon... I will fight, I will fight the world... For you, Rhiannon, I would fight... I would fight the world... For you are in my blood... For you... For you are in my blood

Thanks Jake!!!!!
Do not despair - I also did not like the Love Is on TISL all that much, although I really liked the demo (off key voice and all ) |

The Love Is demo is a beauty. I especially love the "what you believe it is" part that you can barely hear at the end on the finished product. And as far as If Anyone Falls, I sooo wish we'd hear that live again. It's a great live song and it's one of my favorites.

How about "Tango" by Lindsey
Tango In The Night
Written by Lindsey Buckingham. Listen to the wind on the water Listen to the waves upon the shore Try to sleep, sleep won't come Just as I begin to fade Then I remember When the moon was full and bright I would take you in the darkness And do the tango in the night Tango... I keep the dream in my pocket Never let it fade away Inside, outside No loneliness in this dream Then I remember When the moon was full and bright I would take you in the darkness And do the tango in the night Tango... There's a pretty cool discussion of the song here: http://www.fleetwoodmac.net/penguin/...inthenight.htm |
